The height of a man
Is not a measure
Of metric units
Or feet and inches
Scales do not display
True greatness

Breadth of shoulder
Does not reflect
Capacity of heart
Or explain how arms fit
Around another’s need
To absorb the hurt
And dispense healing

No growth chart signifies
Depth of sensitivity,
Calculates the caring
In eyes that brim
With understanding
Or fathoms amount of tender
In softest caress

In a world that thrums with
Chest-thumps of pretenders
That climb on footstools
To increase altitude
And equate volume with power
A quiet giant of goodness
Might think he’s unnoticed,
Not treasured

But even seated you tower
Above all other men

Nice and sincere work! A science professor once told me that "If it cannot be measured one has no right to say it exists". I than askd him How much do you love your wife? Such a meter has not yet been invented by we humans.      adagio

SweetSuthernGal~
Oh my gosh ... I, too, have known such a gentle giant~

I LOVE this ... where were you years ago when I couldn't think of a word to pen the EXACT of him ?

Spot on, poetess ... and it doesn't surprise me~

You are wonderful~

suthern...This is so right on!  A wonderful person does not need to be measured by those that love him or her, nor can they be.  I wish I had written this!

Laura, every man fancies himself so, in his blinder moments.....once in a while one is, but in his blind moments he doesn't believe it....unless he's told...and sometimes not even then.

Words like these, make me aspire.

I love the play on weights and measures, a creative, wonderful way to devote your intention of poetic expression and dedication. Heart on sleeve poetry looks lovely on you Ruth-girlie

Now....................

to me...this speaks as loudly about the author as it does about the subject, for respect and admiration come from the heart
and it takes talent to put those feelings down so beautifully

There isn't much more that I can add, but to say your talent shines to write of something we can all relate and appreciate with no hidden meanings and developed well.  Love the theme, enjoyed the read!
