A red bird enraged
Arguments the looking glass
His faux enemy

While engaged in battle
His mate is stolen away.

******************

A cardinal,
Does windshield battle
With his own reflection.
A one bird revolution;
Thinking he is fighting
A follower of the king.

While Chauvelin battles
Himself like an enemy,
The sly Scarlet Pimpernel
Flys off with his lady

Note:
There is a nutcase Cardinal that is doing battle
with my car windshield, fighting his reflection.
While he is doing this,
his mate is, ummm, mating with his rival.

Narcissus, perhaps?
Were I his mate, I'd wonder
at his mental state...

Liked it all, Ford!  Thank you
for this wink at nature.

Ford

We have a neighborhood peacock who prances up and down the walkway in front of our greenhouse.  He is very taken with his reflection that walks beside him and pays little attention to the Pea-hen right next door.  I really enjoyed your poem!

Thank you for the replies, poet friends.

The cardnal was at it again tonight, trying to beat up the bird in my wifes side view mirror, he will pick a fight with anything..

Nature certainly can be entertaining. Cardinals are a sign of joy and well wishes. Enjoy him/her while they visit.

Maybe they are not actually fighting the own reflection, but want to KISS it (like Sunshine wondered too). Well, I still remember a little bird during a summer at the seaside, he regularly flew towards the window of the bathroom and I wondered what the heck he did intend to do ...

The mystery remains, but maybe you got a closer view to the solution.

Enjoyed your words greatly.

Love, Margherita

You bring back a happy memory -- I watched a mockingbird do the very same thing, about this time last year!
