Amid the proper pomp and circumstance
surrounded by an opulence
not even pharaoh could have imagined
the new figurehead
of the world's poor and destitute
Assumes command
the event signified by a puff of smoke.

abracadabra....

Balladeer
I'll have to watch the news.
Since you wrote this I presume it was white.

And the first German one in ..um, I forget.

I was married to one once..uh,..a German that is.
Oooh geesh..I'm going back outside in the sun.

And the smoke was white and the bells rang.

Greetings Deer
I in the lunch-room at work as I was walking away from the tv as I glanced they where showing gray smoke. Half way down the hall I heard everyone clapping and yelling. I figured they announced who was the new pope.
See Ya

LOL at Toe...

The first German Pope in over 1,000 years...

Not all Germans should be lumped in the same pile...

I know...

but I figure I've enough other ethnicities within my blood stream that it all averages out to make me 100% mutt.

Anyway, I wish the man good fortune - he comes to power in a world gone slightly awry.

You were yes on the bad vibes, mgrove, but wrong on the Germans. My vibes concerned the Vatican itself. I've always considered it somehow a little sacreligious that the Vatican sits there displaying literally hundreds of millions of dollars in riches - gold, jewels, paintings, etc - while claiming to be for the poor and downtrodden of the world. It's not only the Vatican. I have the same problem with Robert Dollar, er, Schuler and his crystal cathedral where one can sit in his own pew by paying for squatter's rights at so much per buttock...and others like him. I liked the passages in the Bible where disciples were told to give away their earthly possessions and go out to preach the word of God. There are many vows traded in the Vatican but I doubt poverty is one of them. At any rate the poem was written to make the comparison of the grandoise display of the Papal selection to  a magic act and my opinion that it was basically "wholly smoke".

The German Pope will do admirably, I'm sure....

thanks for clearing the smoke, air, the bad vibes where thick, and i have known some people who hated germans, just ignorants with out a soul,  hell we all now adays are pretty much mutt, little bit of all in us.  i dont care for prejiduce.  but for the one living in wealth and says he is for the poor, what better way to ease a guilty mind,  most wouldnt be so poor if they didnt give so much to those churches. but then  the devil and god work in mysterious ways.  you got to turn people off from god somehow   right?  thanks for coming back and explaining to me, i appreciate the time.

And your scheme to liquidate the gold, jewels, paintings, etc. would be . . .???

I remember many years ago when the Right Reverend Ike used to preach on TV...he'd have more diamonds and gold around his neck than Mr. T...and would have a diamond studded Rolex watch..and would preach: "A rich man has as much chance of getting to heaven as a camel thru the eye of a needle"...so give me your gold and money and I will put it to the Lord's good....

Thanks Karilea I was trying to remember how long it had been since a German Pope was chosen and it had indeed been over 1,000 years.

When I said I was married to one once..
I didn't want anyone to think I was married to a Pope...but rather to a German..a fine one at that..am I making myself any clearer now or just digging myself in deeper?

agreed.

My problem was age.  I took one look at his picture and said, "He looks old as hell, he isn't going to be around for long."  of course later I read in a news article that he is a "transitional" pope...lmao.

whatever....a few hail marys and all is forgiven.

*ducks*

Father Guido Sarducci...  Now that's my kind of Pope!  Hey there Sir Balladeer... long time no smoke from my corner of the world.  Just poking around and thought I would say, "Hey."I've been far to busy rearranging my world to write much. Hopefully that will change.  Peace to you and all the crew at PIP.
