In New Zealand Amongst the Ancient Trees

Three days in the coming
just two feet climbing the steep.
Following The Children of the Mists
ancient tread, rising beyond
the Lake of Rippling Waters.
An old body aches
from the effort it takes,
blood soaks boots
from heels that break.
The dark is quicker
no view to share
now wait the morning.
No rolling hills here,
simply two thousand foot sheer
and the lake hidden
in mists below.
The precipice at my aching feet
as rising on the day
the sun does greet,
bleeding voluptuously into sky
while the mind holds sway.
Could be a great day to fly or die?
no need of rip stop canopy
just a two step to eternity.
No blot on the landscape,
only another bleeding son
in the mist below.
But thoughts like sunrise
are fleeing things
and the question remains,
could it have been
a great day to fly or die?
The answer lies in the valley
between a gentle woman's sighs.

Well, it's about time, dear prophet, that you came back into the family fold! Welcome back!

Thank you for sharing the view from before you leapt! Breath-taking! My 'was-band' was an extreme sky-diver and he was always pushing the limits on the sport.

Your poem brought to mind what was written on the strut of his plane, "Watch out for that first step! ~ It's a bug--r!" lol

I thoroughly enjoyed this!

Welcome back hugs,
EA

passing shadows, Lee J, nakdthoughts, Earth Angel, thank you for stopping in to read. 15 days later and I am still awaiting the heal of heels to allow me to wear shoes again. However the photographs I obtained that morning were worth it. Pleased you enjoyed.

Bare-footed rock climbing. Talk about extreme sports. *s

A lovely write and an equally breathtaking scene.

Chanson, No, it was only barefoot after the boots came off. Another couple of days and I might be able to wear shoes again.

Enchanting.  I loved this poem.  I was rocked slowly to its beauty.  Thank you for releasing my tension (I have opening night of play tonight)!  Again...Beautiful.
