Suffer
little
children

can seem such warped instruction
as those honored
allow destruction

No kingdom of heaven,
not even a glimpse

Silence preserves an
illusion of perfection
A father turns away,
gives betrayal
not protection

Forbid them not

Forbid
them
not

Knowing such perception
is another cruel deception
still, there's shame

Shame

           Shame

Damaged goods
have scant defense
And fruit tastes so sour
when you're stripped
of innocence

Despair lingers
in open eyes
for hope and faith
are just more lies

Laden with secrets
you must not
disclose
Swathed in fig leaves
but still exposed

When your future's been
bargained and sold
you don't grow up
you just get old

And awaiting their
redemption
little children
suffer

Matthew 19:14, Genesis 3:7

One of my most fervent prayers is to see an end to all the suffering of every child in our global village.

"Laden with secrets
you must not
disclose
Swathed in fig leaves
but still exposed"

~ Painfully, yet ever-so poetically, expressed.

I don't know what brought

It takes just one devil, to make a hell.....and one victim.

This moves me, Laura....and I'm glad you posted it....but so sorry you have been to that place.

When I read this the other day...all I could say was "damn" ....ever the tardy moth that I am...I wanted to come back and let you know it was most effective.
Your writing turned a very signficant corner with this powerful, poignant offering. Far too many people I love suffer with the secrets and shame...none of which should have ever been theirs to carry.
Thank you for this impressive write poetess Ruth.

Sadly, it is the aftermatch of the abuse of our youth that lingers and makes a mark on society.  You wrote this oh so well!
