Physics 101 was easier to master
than the taxing tax codes that change
faster than we can change the water in the bath tub

so, we find ourselves full of guilt,
taking a bath in muddy waters,
textually and mentally taxed,
financially taxed to the hilt

and no one can answer
a simple question anymore,
not even the paid IRS agents

for there are no simple answers

my solution

don't send anything in
don't give them a dime
until they make the tax codes
read like a senryu (with or without rhyme)

~3 lines~

This is what I made.
This is what I owe according to a simple chart.
Here is my check (or) where is my refund?

OK?

I'll drink to the last three.  I chuckle because we never get ours right (even though I consider my ability to calculate fairly descent).

Sure am glad you reminded me: on the 15th, we do our annual "thing"--we have a dish of ice cream while parkied across a post office at 11:40, while watching the people deliver their taxes until  midnight.  (We happened upon this interesting event when burning the almost midnight oil/toil ourselves.)

Last year was hysterical.  A farmer pulling his sounding cattle in tow made it just a few minutes before midnight-taxing to the cattle, for sure!  At midnight, after the last grocery cart of taxes was taken inside of the post office, and they were about to lock up for the evening, a policeman ran across the parking lot waving his unfinished
taxes.  (The men/women in blue stayed open a little past midnight so that he could finish.  You should have seen the relief on his face!)

Enjoyed what you had to say; as you can see, tax time is easy for this reader to relate!

lol

too bad it will never be that simple...

I started out as an accounting major.  As soon as I got into the tax accounting class...I changed my major.

I ain't a quiter, but dang, why over do it trying to keep up with all that?  Life is too short...

I'm understanding that, Susan. I took 3 weeks of Accounting 1, then disappeared. LOL, I was working full time doing data entry of TAX 1040 forms for a large full service acctg firm (in Tallahassee). LOL, I was surrounded by approximately 20 CPA's, and the sour taste of that tax year never left my mouth.
Even the short forms are a major pain these days.
I think tax reform...REAL tax reform, must preceed any Social Security reform.
