Coral Reef/Drum

I lie here in the Shallows…. Just beyond the reef
A place of Awe and Wonder…. A place beyond belief
I’ll try to paint a picture, of what you would observe
But some things are quite difficult to paint with only words

It’s a place where fish like Butterflies are moving with the tide
Place of microcosms and the Coral where they hide
Reef itself is painted by some unseen artists hand
Vibrant… Bursting full of life….. Never seen on land

Glowing in the sunset, the polyps now emerge
Do all kinds of polyp things before they then disperse
As the darkness settles in, the fish begin to move
Some in quiet and solitude,,,, Others are in schools

Squid are darting everywhere… Jetting to and fro
Moving restlessly about……Hunting as they go
Colours, endless colours, as the fish show off their wares
Some are showing pleasure…. Others feeding here

Lobster’s in the open…. He must be feeling brave
Normally all you can see, is feelers in a cave
Now and the a grouper ambles through the night
Ignoring everything, as though he has the right

So now you have a picture of the beauty of the reef
It’s time for us to now discuss, a paltry thing like me

You wouldn’t call me Predator…. That I’ll never be
I am just a product of man’s insanity
A rusting drum of Toxic Waste,,, dumped by those on shore
When I burst,,,,

………You’ll Never see

……………..the Reef Alive once more

.
.
Multinational Company fined $15,500 for dumping
Barrels of Organo-phosphates
It cost more than that to recover the Drums

The reef sounds magnificent, as does the picture you have painted waft a scent and a touch.  To destroy such wonder is unthinkable...and yet, we do.

Well delivered message...enjoyed, yet, saddened by the wickedness of man's doing...when we could so have utilized clean technology?  When decissions are made over money...most times, the rich get richer and the rest of us suffer...

A beautiful write. The ever meaningless ending of such beauty is perverse. I hope your writings are published in needed places. Best to you, martyjo

LongTe~
You've nailed it !
Now if they could just nail more of those perpetrators ... maybe .... just maybe ... those beautiful coral reefs will be there for our next generation to see~
