Blue Plate Special

Always begin with the washing of hands,
Then attend to the choosing of a wine,
A knowledge of taste; etiquette demands,
For the best comes not from the common vine.
The Yellow Trebbiano is crisp and dry,
Bottled in nineteen hundred ninety nine,
The Montepulciano too is not shy,
In fact its color is something divine.
North of Marino the white's grapes were grown,
In permeable, volcanic soil,
Yea to me Italia's not unknown,
For about my heart I'd have her coil.
A choice must be made, and which shall it be,
Uncork the bottle so that it might breathe,
The fragrance carry's me to Sicily,
And the memories I have verily seethe.
Boil the saltwater until it begs,
For the pasta which I'll place in its pot,
Already prepared is the king crab legs,
Add the seasonings, which I've not forgot.
The garlic commutes its pungent nature,
To the glistening oil of olives,
While the palatable greens wait unsure,
If they need to be adorned with some chives.
The masochistic Parmesan cheese pleads,
To be swept across the grate ere to long,
Stir, pour, toss, and shake, I'm a man of deeds,
And soon it's time to ring the dinner-gong.
Candles give perfection to the table,
While Sinatra sings his sultry verses,
'Tis time to eat though I'm barely able,
Alas woe and distress are my curses.
One plate, one glass, one chap, dining alone,
The Blue Plate Special's oft hard to swallow,
Lord I'd give up my finest China Stone,
If just for a day life wasn't hollow.

Wow, I know how the red wine and the pasta feels. I remember my nonna's cooking in Italy. Well done on such an edible poem.

In the plate of solitude, we practice the fine and tempting art of preparation...
Once to dine, the pallet is sated.  I live for the cooking of to be...
Nicely done.

The truth?
I'm in love with your English, sir.

EV2,
Oooo!  This caused me to really work up an appetite until the end.  Then ouch!  I even felt a little guilty for thinking about food when a poor soul ate alone!  Sure do enjoy your work...
