dried leaves
lined the streets

i trod on each one
childlike
and with my drunkenness
conducted an orchestra of
summer and winter
in this time of incipient decline

i was the poet
arms spread in crucifixion

amongst the muddled laughter
of friends

reciting your words from the
“streets of tenderness”

it felt good to be free
