sometimes
i just can't be
the strong one

the one to carry the weight
upon fragile shoulders
with a killer smile

and so i slip away
(not always quietly)
into a remote corner

unable to face the day
much less...
the night

and that's when

the rain falls anyway,
upon softened cheeks

glistening

damn all the dams! and
the damns that bottle themselves up

the spillway gives it all up eventually
and the rushing waters cascade over everything

nothing in the pathway is spared

damn the dams and the damns

let er go wherever she wants
wherever she needs to
to be

free

even if she no longer
has any idea
what she wishes
to be free of

This is the statement that makes this poem strong...

The ending is haunting....

Sad poem, but I enjoyed reading it....
