Finger Painted Sky

A finger painted sky
is hovering over the city lights
tonight I'm remembering
my child hands in the paint
making the late summer sky
shine for me
a halo for me
standing alone in the playground at dusk
standing alone in the world as an artist does

Now I'm in the twilight of my youth
capturing the shine of my sky
my canvas is her body
my paints are my love
dipped in yesterday
painted from memory
painted for unearthed loneliness
she long since buried inside me
examining who I was
comparing to who I am now
with her

I'm memorizing this face
tracing a finger around her eyes
her hair like a flaming comet
streaking across my canvas
landing somewhere deep in my soul
the burning embers inside me
tickling heavenly
my laughter uncovered from so long ago
so long ago shut away inside
as I quietly made my way through days
without a touch from any other soul
'till she reached in and grabbed it
and baptized me with a 10,000 watt grin
splashing colors into my empty white rooms
with such glee
she gave me love, she gave me song
she inspired song within me
tending the garden in my heart
I didn't know existed
and displayed my finger painted sky
in the frame of her dark eyes
shining for me
a halo for me

And so I paint a pair of wings for her
arched white and silver angel wings
she drapes them over the moon tonight
hiding her eyes behind feathers
night has fallen on her autumn hair
flying through my mind
I dip a finger in her charms
and dedicate this cool evening to her
brightening each and every night we share
in this finger painted sky
a paradise for her and I

This is exquisite. Your artistry splashes itself vibrantly in living color onto this blue canvas. well done! Am keeping this one, as I always enjoy life-of-life paintings and poetry.

Beautiful! So many poignant threads to pull on. This phrase strikes my heart at the moment:

she gave me love, she gave me song
she inspired song within me
tending the garden in my heart
I didn't know existed
and displayed my finger painted sky
in the frame of her dark eyes

Thank you
