He waits
at sorrows edge
where the sands
first encounter the sea
then sadly merge beneath,

and she can only blink,

in glimpses
as the foam makes peaks,

seeking insulation
of the dark and deep,

beyond the rocks
where eyes of faith
no longer penetrate
the deception of the locking waves
that guard her in embrace,

he waits

but she can only blink.

Where she cannot -- or will not -- go. Wuch a wistfully sad poem, on so many levels!

There it is, an example
Of why I love poetry...
The compaction of beauty and grace,
Captured in human terms
Be the subject sad or happy...

Thank you Michele

I honestly felt like crying as I read your poem ~ three times. I literally have a lump in my throat. So lost, so sad, so alone ~ but not really. He awaits her return on the shore.

You are such a fine poetess. You are one of the finest that I have ever had the privilege of reading. Promise me that you will remain with us forever! ~ No, I know that's too much to ask ~ but I thought that I would give it a try!

Michele, I would love to see you stretch this one out in prose. You have the format for a good story here, and while it grabbed me poetically, I know there is more underneath the surface...

dive in, and swim with the mermaids.

well, this is just my take, but I don't see this as sad, but an experience...from which a great deal can be learned...perhaps it is my frame of mind today, but you cannot trade your self esteem and identity for the sake of love, and neither should anyone expect you to...it's unfortunate to find out, 2 are not as compatible as what once was thought.

The expression and images in this are passionate with belief...

Well done!!!!
