I almost washed a cat tonight.
Mojo crept into the tub
of my washer on the porch
and I thought quite nothing of
dousing liquid soap upon
the pile of darks in dirtied wait,
I almost didn't hesitate--
but then I heard her yell.

"What the hell?"
As I jumped back.
A launderess
under attack--
gold eye green and flashing hiss
flat ears snarling: "Launder this!"
as she leapt from the machine
she let me know who was the queen
and damned near gave me heart attack
as she scrambled down my back
before she climbed the pine tree where
she howled her misery:

"rrrrralph?" she sounded pitiful.
"Ralph" I answered to the tree.
"Rrrrrrrrrrrawlph" she voiced her misery.
"Ralph." I spoke serenity, cooing kittiness.

I got the ladder from the shed
"Ralph?" I asked with every step
and put it close to where I thought
a few feet o'er my head she was
frozen to the spot, she clawed
the bark to nervous bits and hissed
hating circumstance of this:

Mojo needed help.

She had climbed the long lean trunk
unto the heights of branchlessness
at the very top of tree
and her cry directed me
to where I thought the poor cat was
at the bend of very tip
and Mojo pled a plea of "Ralph"
and I "ralphed" a message back:

"Mama will be there." I purred.
"RRRRRrrralph?" she hurried me.

Her cries were worries, dignicat.
My answers were a lie, in fact.
I couldn't reach the stranded cat.
The ladder short, and I too fat
to play a fireman, I sat
and wailed to her goodbye.

"Ralph." I sighed, my head in hands.
"Ralph?" she seemed to understand
and scooted downward on the trunk
like a lineman late for lunch
she reversed the steps of cat
and would have leapt if not for that
I had ralphed the message back,

"Mojo kitty, home!"

There might have been a "snoopy dance"
but she wasn't dawg, but cat.
So she played it cool and that
was good enough for me.

"Ralph." I chided needlessly.
I rubbed her head. She ignored me--
her dignity restored, and we
hissed our game again.

I heard the washer ceasing spin
cycle so I cleaned the lint
from the dryer to prepare
noting it was warm in there--
I turned to gather wash.

I filled a basket full of wet
and closed the lid of washer that
had almost caused a kitty death,
thinking that I had last laugh

I wiped a forehead full of sweat
with an elbow, saying "whew!"
I'd almost churned some Kitty Stew,
thinking, "Mojo, I'll get you..."
as I turned to place my wash
in the dryer, thoughtless toss
with a couple sheets of "soft"
I thought that I was done.

Then I hit the button "on".
Then I knew that I was wrong
for with a thump and kitty squall--
Mojo was not safe at all.

"RAAAAAAAAALPH!" I heard beyond the door.
thump-thump RALPH with the next turn.
So I bent to give her leave
as she treed my arm to flee
right back up the very tree
that had caused us both such grief,
and thus I gave it up.

I had a can of tuna stashed.
I opened up the can and laughed
and placed it on the table where
she was sure to notice there
was chicken of the sea.

And not a "Ralph" exhanged this time--
Mojo made the record climb
backwards kitty down the tree
and not a "Ralph" exchanged as we
trained each other well.

Mojo is an evil cat.

Good thing that the cat owns me--
a witch who understands the need
to be alone sometimes, I creep
to places dangerous.

I sure hope this worked. I never did the photo thing on my own before. Fingers crossed and hitting submit...

Karen....what a wonderful cat poem and just goes to prove that cats can climb back down.  I had a cat that got into my washer once many years ago.  That story did not have a happy ending, just a clean one.  Sigh!  If you want to hear it, email me...but I don't think you do.

*smiling here*

I have missed your stories.

This sounds like a cat I used to have,
"Peanuts" who had no ears . . .
long story, but he looked just like that.

Good for you on the px, I have yet to get one on here LOL.

It also sounds like my cat, "Stupid"...

who managed to make a turkey bird defrost in the oven that I did not know was there and we almost had exploded bird all over to "there" and gone..

But the neighbors loved it when I went outside to call "stupid" in...they all thought I was wierd and was calling in the ex....

a *wince* to Martie--you're right. I don't wanna know. But hugs, that had to be awful.

And sunshine? My kids were delighted this, so I suppose I'll have to immortalize our true queen, Tosha, who rules the livingroom. I admire her much, she is gorgeous and she knows it. She just hangs out quietly "accessorizing".

Sy? Yippppppeeeeeee....another chance to hug you!

And susie? Photobuckets made this rather easy. (Hey, I tried msn, and um, no go. They truly ARE a pain in the ass. Write you soon, k? *hugs*)

And sheesh, I just got a kick out of myself.

I did something NEW. Yay me. *blush*

I LOVE your feisty cat!
And the picture???!!!  FANTASTIC!!

For it was not into my ear you whispered
But into my heart
It was not my lips you kissed
But my soul

Thanks Nancy Lee.

I have to give credit to the photographer here, as that photo was taken by my daughter, Krista.

To thank her I'll go back a cake. (See, Sue, it's the anxiety factor--and Nance? I bake when I'm nervous.)

But thanks lady, for sharing my giggles and gratitude for the near miss!

Remind me someday, to talk about...

Snow

and Blackie,

Friskie,

and Stupid...

and of course, Samantha...

Cleo, mother of Pepper, and Claude...

and then remind me, that when My Abby is no more [for she is getting old, my dog is...]

Yes, remind me that it is time for a cat, again...

one who will sit at my desk, and talk to me in the way and sway of cat talk...

yes, remind me....

I loved this from the title through the last word (which of course belongs to Mojo! LOL)

Your rescue operation reminds me so much of the first day Boy Cat was "mine"... and my Dad's dog put him up a tree in the back of the pasture. *S* And the only reason I didn't have to check the dryer for Cosette was that she was always underfoot. *G*

Give Mojo a gentle rrrrralph for me, wouldja please? *S* She's a beauty!! (and so are you *S*)

*beaming at you all*

and lol@Lauren...I was considering publishing a small collection of my stuff, but I thought it would be an ego trip. Then I thought some and thought, "well what ain't?" And since I took that life expectancy test, and realized my time is rather limited, maybe I'll get on the ball now. But you do realize I'm one of those people who procrastinate so much, I still haven't joined the club!

And Alicia, lady, I should ask YOU if you realize what you do? Such a compliment from a poet I admire so very much! thank you lady.

And thanks to all. The offline family is getting a big kick out of seeing our mojo kitty getting all this love.

I'm fortunate to have such wonderful families.
