Out Making Anticlines

Having decided (barely) to remain at this site, I
wanted to post something right away -- an ironclad
guarantee that the muse will be absent! On the
other hand, there's one poem I wrote nearly a year
ago.... I didn't post it then for a baker's dozen reasons,
but now seems like a perfect time for this particular one....
and for some of the very same reasons.

Odd sometimes the way things work out, isn't it?

permanent blues

blues now, blues again
and this time maybe for keeps
all down between the world
for a blues time, forever time
and nothing to carry him at all

permanent blues, he can see now

something he can't leave
at the door, roll home in the dark
or stand there happy eyed
and sing like a drunken romeo
in the shadow of a street lamp

permanent, permanent blues

he's had now, has it bad now
she comes and she goes
but even when she goes
she is still there, constant
blue shade that is light to him

shadow light of indelible blue

and when she is with him
his blues can be a delight then,
a well he will draw from
and find himself drawn again
all his lines clear, succinct

so it's permanent blues

down at the center of things
and without affect or affectation
he embraces the newness
tumbles into this blueness
and it's not so bad, you see,

in fact he likes it that way

The entire poem is absolutely fantastic... it's as haunting as the sound of an alto sax drifting through the darkness... but this line... this line makes me hurt for my friend... and wish he could know how many would gladly lift him to songs of joy... if we could.

you could exchange this for me~~

same feelings~~same blueness~~

maybe I was born to be blue in this stage of life...having been in the pink for the majority before.
Sometimes we just can't have what we want no matter how hard we try to do things "right".

~always enjoy reading you~

James, this piece really touched my heart.
Well done. Chris

Sad but true, those blues you write of,
certainly not the best place to find our niche.

Chin up and hugs, James_A~
