(Note: unlike most of my poems, this one is almost entirely meaningless. Enjoy the mess.)

Mercury

Today is fading into my face
cold as the dark side of Mercury
and the mandolin sings through my veins
I yearn for the home I left behind
hanging in the sky, sitting pretty and green beside
bent clouds crying broken blue rain
we crawl out of the frozen Ontario night
to meet the brilliant diamond dawn
lying in the dirt like a holy ghost
the streamers of light like your green eyes
shattering through kaleidoscope windows
bulging out from April painted houses on the lake
staring out over the ugly grey cityscape
I spend all my days thinking about the strawberry taste
of your cheshire smile, sending cupid's misspent arrows
straight to me, cutting straight through my fishbowel of a heart
the remnants of my life orbiting around her blood red head
before I shut out the light, I hang my cares on the crescent moon
that refuses to leave me alone, and leave the keys to my private universe
under the welcome mat that doesn't welcome girls like you in
so sorry, yet so blurry when the stars come out to play
to play with my self-esteem, cashing my checks in to see you naked again
oops, did I really say that, and did you really want to get back to being us?
anyway, I ask permission to dip my paintbrush in your blue ocean
and paint myself a perfect picture to hang on my imperfect chest
but you say, seems like you always say,
'please deposit another twenty-five cents for me to give a **** '
and so I do, you know I do, over and over like day shifting violently to day
is it too late for me to take a hit on the whispering radio at night
Bob Marley won't you deliver me a little dose of redemption
in little gift-wrapped melodies that keep me sane during the day
don't say I'm crazy, I'm kinda lazy, like the sun
like anyone without a Chinese monkey playing her majesty's beauty on a broken piano
in the gory aftermath of math class when I can't find my eyes in the spring light
okay, I'm just that crazy and I take it all back
I'm packing the bags under my eyes
heading back to Mercury
see you when I see you, when I need to be in your shoes
when you need to be in my eyes
and the poetry I write for the lies I can't forget
like angel wings made of magazines and eviction notices
it's all for you
just like Mercury

this is not a mess, but true words of beauty written from your heart...enjoyed the visuals and tenderness of this, and you, very much
