(Today is the second anniversary of the death of Rachel Corrie, an Olympia, Washington peace activist killed by an Israel military bulldozer when she attempted to block the demolition of a Palestinian home in Gaza while working for peace activism overseas. The most obvious way to honor Rachel is to continue working on issues that mattered to her. Peace and justice was what she believed in, not just for Palestinians for for all the world. Let us pray for her loved ones and see to it she is not forgotten and we continue to walk in her footsteps to see to it Palestinians and Israelis can co-exist peacefully someday. ) American Olive Tree By: Noah Eaton 3/16/05 Wounds in the womb of Wednesday, Continue to bleed with language without scansion, Her eyelids are like caves that haven’t been explored, And her blood is cuneiform washed away in the rain, Friends come, lay white Madonna lilies at her grave, But they’re struggling out of the caverns of her memory, Cause memory is also when something does not completely unhappen, And that’s why this world keeps caving in… And all that I pray, Is for the world to see… American olive tree… And all that I pray, Is for the world to hear… American olive tree… Villages still hear the laughter tape-recorded, "I will deny you your spoken voice." looped within D-9 Caterpillar treads, The soil’s been tilled, freekeh grows in her fields, But her voice is broken pottery six feet under, “I would rather feel compassion than know the meaning of it” I would rather make out the chicken scratch, And if we were to fail making out the message, I’m afraid we have lost our way… And all that I pray, Is for the world to see… American olive tree… And all that I pray, Is for the world to hear… American olive tree… Something’s disturbing about this friendly curiosity, Even as the major checkpoints are closed, Pat Benatar sounding from the speakers, Puddles of pendleton blankets on the hills, Angels unrecognized in black shawls, Pantomiming lectures to the newscaster, When we are aware newscasters don’t cry, That’s just not the way information is sent… And all that I pray, Is for the world to see… American olive tree… And all that I pray, Is for the world to hear… American olive tree… And all that I pray, Is for the world to see… American olive tree… And all that I pray, Is for the world to hear… American olive tree… As much as I speak about her, I still cannot do her justice And if we were to fail making out the message, I’m afraid we have lost our way… "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other" Mother Teresa |

Noah, you bring attention to her mission ~ and her plight with this exceptionally moving write. I felt the conviction of your words and the reverence you felt for this young woman who believed in, and worked for, peace. Now please make sure that you take good care of yourself, my angel activist friend! Hugs with love, Linda |
