When I was young, no more than twenty,
I'd cut class, slipping off campus
with its red brick halls, graced with ivy,
and its square rooms in which cohabited
religiously aligned desks
and the wanton randomness
of crossed legs. On the west slope,
springs comes early bringing Chinook into the rivers
and fishermen retiring to the beaches
of the Columbia. Playing 'hooky' seemed appropriate.
So there I was beneath a tarp,
a slice of plastic, blue to compensate
for the low overcast
and as insurance against a rain threat.
I rarely caught anything,
but never failed to take my limit
of ocean traffic. Even then
I loved ships. Looking back,
my thoughts vibrate equally
to a glimpse of nylon top
as the brunette in the front row
shifts her weight, and the low, pulsing rhythm
of a freighter, whispering to the beach
of things mysterious and deeply laden
from the Orient.

How are ya?

you sure a ship and the top of a nylon give you the same vibration?  *eg*

Ah, now there's a view...
and a welcome sight, indeed.

Welcome home, Robert.

Hello again! I really enjoyed this, can almost taste and smell the salty air, almost feel an ocean breeze even as I sit looking out upon a sunny, still, warm suburbia morning 50 miles from the coast. Thanks for sharing that salty scent!
