Out Making Anticlines

bee

you spill your drink
so
casually
on the concrete
table

spill me small talk
watching
the pink pool run
slow
sparkling
to the very edge

bulging
against gravity
it holds
glistening
wanting to fall
unable

minutes pass
hesitant
and it retreats
flattens as
the cement starts
to take it

just then
the first bee
finds it
and I understand

you only wanted
to watch them
come
suck
what they think
is nectar
for your amusement

I move
around the table
slowly
not to
disturb

it shimmers
pink,
delectable
as I land
beside it

Whoa! Now this excellent piece of writing must go back to the top for others to appreciate.

Jamie

It is so easy to see this scene....You have a way of writing that is so real.

James,
You do it everytime!  Cause me to lose myself in thought!  Oh, the trails this takes me!  Love the entire poem, but as a wishabee fiddler in science, I really was captured by your description here:

spill me small talk
watching
the pink pool run
slow
sparkling
to the very edge

bulging
against gravity
it holds
glistening
wanting to fall
unable

Sounds like a little "surface tension" is going on!   You write brilliantly with a reservoir of knowledge in so many diverse areas.  I'm sooo envious of you, James!
Grin.

And some "below the surface" tension, as well! *S* I like this very much, my friend... especially the ending... temptation is so hard to resist... especially when it shimmers so pink you simply MUST taste. *S*
