Better to Not Have Loved at All

I sometimes wonder at the allocation of the seasons, time and pain,
Especially after the autumn leaves final dance under the moonlight.
I say this because I find a sort of peace within winter’s embrace---
A passionate cold that reaches through my consciousness and into my soul,
Reminding me of her…
Why do I find such comfort in these wayward thoughts and feelings?
When it causes my heart to suffer in silent loneliness;
My grasp on all that I once treasured and hoped for,
Has left dried blood and tears on my brittle fingers—
Fingers that now wipe away the frosty condensation from my heart’s window,
Through which my memories, sorrow, and pity can be seen,
Comforting the remnants of a once loving man,
Shivering not from the bitterness of winter,
But from love’s haunting kisses that betrayed him that one sunless summer.

Marcel

What the heart chooses to remember, the soul will never forget.
"If I had to choose, between having and loving...I would choose loving to the fullest extent."
An excellent write.

Marcel, the following soul-touching lines are also true for me,

"I say this because I find a sort of peace within winter’s embrace---
A passionate cold that reaches through my consciousness and into my soul,"

~ Absolutely beautiful!

Marcel~
I sure hope you know how the beauty of your thoughts touches me with an encompassing warmth~

'after the autumn leaves final dance under the moonlight'

AND that ^^^^^ is EXACTLY an ember of thought that warms my night~

When the scream of it can't find a surface to break from....it finally degrades into the steady tone of desolation. This poem is too deeply drawn to be anything but real, too hopeless not to come from a soul that has known its destined love....and lost it. The sun will rise, but there is a cold within that it can never reach.....though love may, in time. I hope that for you.
