the blood of innocence seeps into the sand
staining soil dark by devil man’s hand

babes in tatters make bare foot lines
while mammas and papas, for their suckling pine

hollow eyes carry empty, the wounds too deep
where then are the angels? their souls to keep?

thin frail frames carry this hellacious weight
of God men gone crazy with fanatical hate

can you hear them?   the wind carries the anguished cry
of the lost children’s nightly flight beneath the Ugandan sky

If I wander far enough, long enough, will I finally know . . .

Susan,  spoken so graphically and so well.
Their plight is far greater than any we
know ourselves...we are blessed.

Thank you so for your kindness - was reading about the children in Uganda - it is a shameful crime - and yes, here in this country, with all our faults, it is a virtual heaven compared to many another country -

Hugs - luv you all - Susan

I liked this - I've heard many stories about the Ugandan people - so much pain there - but good stories too

"the blood of innocence seeps into the sand
staining soil dark by devil man’s hand"

The "devil mans hand" is at work in many places
in Africa and other countries

But of what use is Uganda?
Not much riches are found there
Nothing there to steal
(I am being sarcastic)

Neither is there in the Sudan or Congo, where other

"hollow eyes carry empty, the wounds too deep"

A most excellent question....
"where then are the angels? their souls to keep?"

An excellent ending....
"....the wind carries the anguished cry
of the lost children’s nightly flight beneath the Ugandan sky"

The poem is a purge of anguish you feel in your heart,
This can be felt by the reader.

Well expressed, Susan....

Ford - these children are truly babes - most under the age of 13, forced from their homes, from their beds, to be enslaved as rebel soldiers - little girls raped - sometimes they are forced to kill their own parents in the most horrific manner - and so come night they leave their beds and wander - a pilgramige for safety - until they find a safe haven in which they might find refuge for a night - no child should suffer so - and these men who commit such horror - they claim to be christian - it makes me sick - and I wish there was more to be done - why does not the world unite to give some aid?  Yes, it pains me - thank you for your considerations -

Nightfall - thank you most kindly for your eyes

Copperbell - yes, some good stories to be found, but too much tragedy spreads across Africa - I do not understand nor can I comprehend what allows one human being to do such to another - thank you for your reply

Hugs -  Susan
