ONE MOONLESS NIGHT
~ Linda L. Dowd

One evening late, I walked back roads,
And all was dark and eerie.
I came upon a farmhouse old,
~ Abandoned and quite dreary.

Winter winds shook the shutters,
The roof was topped with snow.
And tho’ it was a moonless night,
The house began to glow.

I trudged my way past iron gate,
To front door without a latch.
Slowly I did venture in,
And then I lit a match.

Web-clad sheets were draped about,
Each table, lamp and chair.
I mustered up a faint “Hello”,
~ But knew no one was there.

Swirling vapors lit the shadows,
Causing me to shriek.
And then a sound that chilled my bones,
~  The stairs began to creak!

As match went out, my knees did knock,
And froze me to the spot.
I could not move ~ nor could I breathe,
~ And then I heard a shot!

It echoed thru’ the halls and walls,
Vibrations shook the floor.
I gathered what remained of wits,
And bolted out the door!

Several months had come and gone,
When I overheard a story.
Of a man who shot his wife and self,
And haunted farmhouse gory.

One evening late, I walked back roads,
And all was dark and eerie.
I came upon a farmhouse old,
~ Abandoned and quite dreary.

This is my favorite stanza. As always, a wonderful piece that I enjoyed so well.

I am SO glad I didn't read this when I was having to creep into a pitch-dark lonely farmhouse every Friday night! LOL As it was, I lay there bug-eyed... with Boy Cat no longer there to distract me, I heard every creak and groan... even emitted a few squeaks! LOL

I enjoyed this very much, my friend... creepily delicious! *S*

I was working...but I do like it. I have some things posted in here, well one. It's called "Assimilation"

I'd love it if you could find it and read it. I adore your work so much and I'd like to do the same for you. You are an amazing writer and as always, your words seem to always fit my mood and make me feel better. Thank you for that. You give me inspiration!

Always,
Kirah

WindSong ~

I looked up your poem "Assimilation" and it says "moved or closed" and I am unable to open it.

Above each poem posted, there is a little magnifying glass. (On the line that has the email, edit, etc. buttons). If you click on that you can see all of the poems listed for that poet. You can do that for yourself as well. You can also go into Smart Search near the top of the screen to search for poets and specific poems. Have fun exploring all the buttons.

I really enjoyed reading your kind comments, Kirah! Thank you!
