I carry my body,
a worn recital of death

down the sycamore paths
I cherish, this peculiar
arithmatic of distance,
divided on the page in sage
and fragile moments,

so much grey muslin
among its wan folds, fades,
the way eyes stray
from the passages of the 23rd Psalm
and eavesdrop on prayer,
lean hands shepherd this cruel beauty
of celluloid moths imprisoned
in the pews of memory, and night
comes into me like fever,
seizes its likeness in a helix
of lambwhite muscles, tic
in the veined rinds of wingfolds,
not of the body, alone
but smitten in the trembling lips
of flesh, my epiphany floods,
its sap from the matted
layers of black, beneath
the faun-down limbs,
rinsed in lavender,
rinsed in gin,
until what breath we are
is shaken from us, in moments
of barbed equilibrium,

...though I walk through the valley...

an immaculate soft red clay
clings, barefoot silks and muslin
caked to the creamskin, trembling
your shepherd hands harbor screams
in their tearful core,
these longing hymns

arch the thighs
and brim the mouth with song.
