Is this the final cut
neat slice of a sharp blade
dissection
for clinical investigation?

One used to think
that air passed in artieries
when the blade chanced on tubes
oxygenated blood was not implicated...

or is this a final cut for a film
neat slice of life
cut and mounted
for a viewing public?

One used to think
that silent scenes spoke enough
anguished faces expressed silent words
Today we have to have speaking parts
to win an oscar
due to the final cut
clinical or staged.

Are you sometimes wanting to return to the days of the silent movies? or maybe just more moments with close ups and expressive silence?
Yes, sometimes, a closeup shot without dialogue actually says much more. The slices of life they want you to remember...maybe are not the ones you would choose.

I like the expressive silence form time to time, the jabber blinds what an intense look can do.

Expressions of form, light and shadows...
Yes, they have much to say, their silence probes the mind..like reading poetry with metaphor..they make you think.

I prefer black and white movies over color, for the same reasons...Just look at the old Charlie Chan movies; you must look carefully for expressions as the plot moves towards who done it, you must peer into the shadows for clues...interact with the actors.

enjoyed the poem Martin....

Ah yes the old Charlie Chan films, the old silent horror flicks or Lillian Gish at her expressive best. "They had brains" she said when speaking about silent film artists in her later years. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
