If I had to choose
the kind of plant, I would be
a Lily.
Of a shadowed valley
I would stand,
proud of myself,
maintaining my dignity
against the petal-bending gust
and forceful pelt of rain.

And if I had to choose
the kind of gaze to peer upon me,
openly, see the errors that etch
my body, marred,
but  worthy of your wise eyes
regardless of my cowardice.

If the choice was solely mine,
I would stretch my roots
to warmer times
and welcome the sun,
to heal,
to grow,
to live again.

I bought my share of mistakes so I might see some interest.
~Dorene

Thank you for the warm welcome, Sunshine. *s

This is the only poem I've written in over a year. It feels good to have sat down and worked  on one.

Martie, thank you. I've always been partial to the Lily. Don't know why... just because, I guess.

Thanks again.

ah if given the chance to redo, to add forgiveness to the choices made instead of to the choices passed by......this is is powerful, the images and the heart behind it.......I know...I made the wrong choice first and have let my heart bloom much too late in life....sigh...
thank you for the thoughts this inspired

Some lessons are learned the hard way. In fact, most are.

Thanks for your thoughts, jellybeans. They are appreciated.

What a lovely way to look at forgiving and how it applies to the lily as well as the warmth of the sun. They really do go hand in hand.

This breathes life beautifully, dear Chanson~
