Listening to every heart

Only When Alone

odd, but it’s always been
that way
tragedies strike, she moves
in quiet tandem
with wind and sun
to hurry along the source
of hope,
winding words into
bandages
words of “it will be
all right,” as hands pluck
at coverlets to
warm again the soul
of those in need…

she will not take in
the air that you
need to breathe through
this catastrophe, but
holds on to

whatever she holds on
to,

it’s not yet her time…

she becomes focused on the
needs and heeds others
in their time, knowing that their
pain is more, just
now
their needs are more, just
now
and says naught but
“it will be all right,” knowing
that will never be enough
to wipe the memories
clean of what once was

how change comes so
rapidly…

as the dust settles, as night
befalls the day’s warm,
as the dry earth melts into
fog’s embrace,
and soaks in the vague
clouds that mist over,

time moves on…

and so it will be, who will
know when, days, weeks,
months shall roll by,
inextricably,

but only when alone,
will she cry

This is a splendid tale of sad introspection.  Well done.  Ken

I cannot highlight one sentence in this poetic vision, as the entire poem has compassion spelled all over it...

Hugs dear lady for a grand read this morning

Sound like woman to me.

Strong on the outside, always giving and helping never letting anyone see her pain or her tears.

amazingly insightful..but then I have a feeling you have first hand knowledge.

Yes, you have spoken for all of us. And I ask, when does it end? Who is there to help us through those sad times brought on to us by others, but whom we have to try and help.
Mostly we can not be comforted because we are so used to being the nurturer and cannot seem to accept help for ourselves.
After we give our love, time, money, even our blood, the tears still flow in our quiet time, because we can not help those who will not try. In the end who is there to comfort us and rock us to sleep? marty

I had to come back for another read...and while reading, I thought of my grand-daughter, such a beautiful trusting child...as we all were at one time...and I can't help but ask myself...what gives anyone the right to cause such pain, grief and take that world like flower away?

Kari...sending hugs for such a poem that all should read...this should definately be published.

You bring home the image of a strong, gentle person.  I can think of many like this, but it reminded me so much of my mother.  Enjoyed!
