A Rich Sense of Self

He is there,
always in the background
when I need that uplifting talk.

I wonder how he knows,
when he realizes
that just seeing that smile,
remembering those lunches
will bring a tear, a happy one
trying to figure out where I go from here.

Being happy for me, being supportive
even if a distance away today,
loving being with me, even if in thought alone
gives this friendship a richness
that everyone deserves.

And in those early morning hours when
awakening is the hardest,
I can catch him, too, and
share in his wealth
that which is him.

I wish for him to feel as I feel,
that he is rich in self and is meaningful and significant to me.

When someone can give another the feeling that they are always there for them, even when not with them, they have given an extremely precious gift. We all hope for someone like that. If you have one, you are blessed....very nicely said, Maureen
