Imaginary Friend

I tried to have one, couldn’t do it.
None of the other kids could either,
not creative I guess. A couple pretended,
but you could tell they were faking it.

Grownups thought we should have ‘em,
at least the ones who made the TV shows,
and the kid with the imaginary friend
was always the cute one everybody loved.

I finally gave up; it would be a pest anyhow
and who would really want a friend
who had a pipe into your head maybe, but
disappeared when anything flushed down it?

Who indeed? Now I find they’re unavoidable.
But I still don’t have one.

I never did the imaginary thing either - wondered about that - not a lack of creativity - just on a different plane I guess - enjoyed the thoughts in this -

Again, lots to think about...  but, Rat, who needs an imaginery one when he has the real thing?  You do know you are a very valued person and poet on Passions?

I think Cathy is right, Ed....Imaginary friends are made from the air where a real friend should/would stand.  Michelle had two.  Because I knew she was isolated where we lived, and I could not give her everything, although I wanted to.

OOps...sorry to blabber on in your thread...I think you have enough real friends, no pretending ones instead.

Hmmmm... sorry to see that... sounds like a situation of mine that did eventually get salvaged, but wow what an effort it took....

A friend, is a friend, is a friend and all are a fancy in the end. Enjoyed the read.

I never had an imaginary friend when I was a child ~ mind you, I have them now!

One of my daughters had 2 angel friends and her younger sister always felt left out because she did not have any. I told she had angels around her as well and that in time she would see them too! ~ and she did!

Oh... these lines are classic Ed-excellence! *S*

I agree with earlier comments... I think loneliness is more responsible for their existence than creativity. *S*

But... how much better to have imaginary friends... than to have those imagined to be friends.

Excellent work! *S*

Imagination!  Some are blessed with it and some??? I remember my young Joanne. Vivid imagination with an IQ to match.  She and a little friend were arguing up a storm. I finally went to ask what the problem was. Joanne said, "Laurie will not return the pink pocketbook". I said, "you do not have a pink pocketbook". Whereupon she turned her bright eyes toward me and with a sigh, retorted, "It's imaginary!"   best marty
