Dear Michelle

The flowering peach is all a bud
even though its not the first or second tree,
but the third and better for that number, see,
it was given (like the other two) because of love
this time from a man you never knew
unless you see into him, through me.
He is far different then those girls and boys
of the second grade….but love is love
and a gesture of tree is to be glad of.

And this
from the place where you are now
all around the room and a part of me
so far    so far   from the back door
and the scrape of crayons on manilla paper
that always made me cringe
I feel you now like almost spring.

But of course it would bloom,
It’s February,  and in the clock of things, it’s time
to bring this touch of you to mind this month is due
even on a Thursday or any other day is true

What do you think I should do?
I am so unglued and out of sorts
and you are not a child any more of course.
Although it’s hard for me to think of you in other ways
I feel your presence with me most days
but especially now   I long to see your face.

This place is still your home, some see you here
as sure as that piano, you play the corners of the room;
but it is the little girl that hides that way
right now I need the woman.

The ending of this letter stays
With love always,
Your mother
--------
in loving memory of Michelle

Your poems for Michelle just keep getting more and more beautiful... and this one especially... for the ache isn't just for what she was... but what could have been.

Martie ~

Suthern took the words right out of my mouth. Ditto to what she so aptly and deservedly wrote about your loving poem about Michelle.

You dear lady..... in every woman there is the girl she was, as in every girl there lives the woman she will be. It's a blessing to see one in the other, as much a blessing as it is to hear an age-softened piano played by a loving mother....and feel her long-departed daughter enter the room to listen.

Neither the girl within the woman nor the spirit who listens while her mother plays, can be seen with eyes....to be in the presence of both and to know them both, is sheer blessing. Such a blessing did come for me once, on a long-ago but very treasured Wednesday afternoon.

This poem marks a step into the future for you, Martie...a small, confident step in the direction you will go. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

Amazing write, Martie!!

Although it has been some years since your daughter departed from this earth to join the heavenly realm...I am praying you through this month.  She is looking down on your with laughter and big smiles...waiting for your journey Home!  I bet she can hardly wait to give you a big ole squeeze!

Many hugs and prayers for you, Martie!!

The miracle is you're here,
and the miracle is you're loved...
Even if you're the last on earth
you're loved from up above!!

Isn't it odd that we can not manage to age them Martie?  I am beginning to think that the Mother in us must need that connection the way it was, not how it could be.  Still I think the craving for what could be, grows over time too to create a need.  Did that make sense?  This was a beautiful letter.

How grand it is that your goodness and light keeps shining on this child your bore and keep alive with such writings.  Hugs Ken

Thank you so much, my friends, for putting up with my Februaries each year, and for finding the beauty in a child you never met, except through my words.  It makes me very proud, of her and of myself.

How could we not?

A girl child is almost always like her mother in too many ways to name. One look at you and the beauty in her becomes obvious....one look at the verse you write of her, and the beauty of her spirit becomes just as clear.

perhaps she even stirs your words my friend, she whispers with your music.

This was so elegant and most faithful...you do have the heart and mind of a grand mother...and this, Martie, was absolute magic...how precious and profound...huggle sent to you and yours, may you always and forever be within the arms of this powerful love....

Far from 'putting up' with your February heartbeat, Martie...I have come to look forward to warmth, a depth of love for your child, as each February's portrait seems to release a deeper hue than the previous one.

Martie, I have no words to express the depths that your poem touched me. So much love just leaps off the pages and enters into the readers heart. Only a loving Mother could write such love to a child. I know that she's proud of you, too.

God bless you, dear, sweet Martie.
Heart Hugs,
Ethel
