To David, Someday My Son….

Mission…overlooked or forgotten
Sometimes, I’d like to…but…
Simon says…love madly
Then…a tap toe smile threads
What might save the memory of scent?
A thousand years of daybreak might point the way
I’ve seen those years…in eight
Felt bones of echoing touches
Tried building a fire to warm us

Short or elongated, we make it fit better
Or try with hearts so wide…
Lost in a clean elegance of thought
Conforming to elusive, restrictive delights and
All the while, knowing…
Knowing there is never a winner
Yet, cats sit outside the door with ears cocked

The soul knows what the mind & heart deny
I have to look for more…find that path
Hobnob with what is not mine
Find a way beyond the face of thoughts
Compassion mends a leaking roof

Slipping past any inner sentry I might employ
Closing my eyes to better hear an abyss of
Fleeting touches….”there is always more for me to learn”
And I must….never fear being wrong

In foresight of the abyss…there are stars like pearls
Steamed by my own sea, I shall not complain
About stinking volcanic ash…from which land rises
Or the mansion I’ve never visited or wore
Oh, how the evil one, never ceases to surprise me
Yet, he lives from my careless sewing

We talk, he snickers and I tell him I’ve built mind-towers
He can’t get in…I won’t allow it…
He laughs & says, he wants me even more…
I think I have been informed again
About an ancient dark…underground drugs and things of evil intent
There on the ground lays a blood-smeared blouse with broken sails
I point and say, “I shall be what you cannot imagine”
Then tease him to dare me…
He flips me a double dog dare
“I go to the concealed” smiling an answer
Hitching a ride on the back of an owl
Waving good-by to a fleeting world
Not knowing where I eat next
And yet…knowing…all will work out in the end

My name is very small, but, it is still a name
I refuse to trade….
As the evil one is always there
So to, are the everlasting rivers
It’s ok to be who and what the angels gave you

Of loving madly…perhaps only a crumb at first
But as each new day begins
So to, shall sing, the song of a new breakfast
Even sweeter then before…
Don’t trade who you are for any cost…

Somehow my mission will be learned
Before the swells of any storm
It is within the eye that I am lost
And by that, make myself free
My mission is a spiritual window
Perhaps built, just for me…by me
You are my mission…or were

Now it’s your time…
Be as you wish….
You to, will learn
There will be brief clouds painting the sky
Your sky, is a canvas
Paint over the clouds
Look deep within wavelengths
Paint the oasis for her
Give her azure blue oceans
Teach her to tie her shoes
Then…let her go
To wade within a river of love

Love her madly
Not with impatient hands
But give her libraries
Let her walk in….
Then my song will smile
And all the words I’ve written will make sense
Someday….my son…

Remember...it is you the evil one fears

You, Lee J, are a wonderful mom indeed.  This is a great tribute to your son.  I bet it makes his eyes water.  I bet his wife will love this too.

Excellent!!

Wow...this will stand the test of time. And be treasured reminder for your son...on what a mother's love is truly worth.

Lee,  you write with great wisdom and the
feelings of a woman who has been in those
shoes...knowing what the right things are
and what to avoid.

You have told the story very beautifully,
something to be treasured and shared.
