Distant Love

How can I grieve the separation of two hearts
and their longing for each other,
when distance only sings
the songs of togetherness?

Love does not consider
the deepness of valleys,
nor the loftiness of mountains,
nor the vastness of oceans
but considers only the measure of itself,
its fullness, its depth,
its exquisiteness,
its beauty, its bliss.

It thrives on memories engraved in the eye,
on the flesh and in the heart.
It does not wither, but rather it grows
ever grander in the spaces between,
in the breezes above and in the
currents below.

I do not regret a distant love,
but revel in the closeness of the spirit,
and find contentment in love’s yearning for life.
For its joy and sorrow
dance together in the field
and glow in the same sunset,
are sparked by the same melody
and flow within the same teardrop.

I do not grieve for love.
but am enriched by  the purpose and meaning
it has given my life,
and I exalt that love which is distant
and even that love which has been lost.

Though it may not have been fulfilled,
yet it is sanctified in it’s own right,
it lives beyond life itself,
flourishes in the parched desert,
survives the ravages of storms,
and dissolves the notions of distance and time,

and thus is the most honorable and glorious
gift to man from our almighty God.
