Listening to every heart

Valentine’s Song

Easily shattered
Fragile as a dove’s white wings
Yet trust, forthcoming
For such is hope’s slender limb
Holding to such faith as this
Life, so delicate
Yet resounds in red bird’s breast
With such a sweet song
Turn away not, harbingers
Returning faith on spring’s wind
Such is winter’s last
Folly, fulsome play of heart
Giving take of sprites
Playing the seasons so well
Giving spring thus its heart beat
Easily shattered,
Even Red’s fragility
Stood the coldest test
To see him as Valentine
For he sings to one true love

You'd be amazed how un-fragile those wings can be. Heavy human hands can break things even with the best of intentions, so we aren't something to compare it to....the bird is built for two things, strength and lightness, while we're built for only one. Birds will likely be around when we're gone, the ones we don't take with us in our suicide.....

"Such is winter’s last
Folly, fulsome play of heart
Giving take of sprites
Playing the seasons so well"

Now still does the brook
Babble beneath gelid crust
World of gray and white

But chirps above a minstrel
Red as a valentine heart

Beautiful poem and picture, Kari...

Thank you all.

As Ed pointed out, birds are a lot stronger than we give them credit for.

Yesterday's writing was early in the morning, the chirping was a bit faint, and the word "fragile" came to mind. Perhaps because it has been a longer winter than we have experienced in some time in our neck of the woods, I am not sure, but this was how the poem laid itself out. [Sometimes they do that, you know...just write themselves.]

I hope each and every one of you enjoy today, it's meaning, and carry it on throughout the year.

Or at least until Christmas.

Nothing quite as beautiful as birds that mate for life, is there?

This is lovely and a great departure from the usual Valentine!

Hope you have a wonderful one, dear lady.

Thank you, Ladies. Cardinals seem to hold a certain part of me, especially in the bittersweet temperatures of late winter/early spring.
