Peanut butter smeared on his face
Juice spilled all over the floor
Innocence shining in his eyes
A blank look on his face
As he tells me sincerely
"I didn't do it."

Toys strewed across the floor
Crayon marks on the wall
He looks the picture of perfection
As he tells me
"It wasn't me."

Torn between anger and laughter
And he knows it
He'll say anything to make me laugh
Knowing once I laugh his punishment will be less severe.

Bad boy
But I love him still
Even if he did do it.

They indeed use that heartstring,
and they do it often, no matter
what age...

We've missed you, Jacqueline. Welcome home!
