Where are the boys,
the girls,
who drank Coca Cola
for five cents,

who walked in life
among these sights
on Sunday afternoons.

The strong men
who were in love,
the women who were beautiful,
their music in the air.

Sunlight fades
from the summer sky;
shadows grow on the mown lawn.

A weathered soldier
stands alone

above
an empty square.

Condensation
runs down green glass walls
A southern town
slakes their thirst
for the good life.

My dad has a fascination with commercial jingles, and he's sung me a few of those coca for five cents jingles... It sounded like a better time then now. I don't know, I wasn't there. But it's faded out as well... I just hate to think it leaves people there, standing alone...

Love your writing.

A keeper this is, John.
Those I knew of that time back then
are almost all gone, now...
but some things gifted from them
never fade...
