beneath the sun

beneath the sun, a turbaned mind
unfolds another day
while eyes of glass are focusing
upon a vulture’s prey
prepare for war, prepare for death
prepare to be a man
the predator stands vigil o’er
the barren desert sand

among the stars your fate is scrolled
where life and death are one
of equal weight upon a scale
beneath the Arab sun
fight on, young man, the moment’s here
to offer skin and bone
as though a sacrificial lamb
beneath a silver dome

tomorrows and tomorrows
never gather in your eyes
no hint of childhood fantasies
beneath a man’s disguise
the yesterdays and yesterdays
are not for looking back
today will bring a thousand tears
beneath a veil of black

a mist enshrouds the legacy
that once inscribed a race
another cloud of tyranny
invades a turbaned face
and so, young man, the hour is yours
the blind will meet the blind
with only dust, but never pride
or honor left behind

a thousand and a thousand years
are slow to come undone
and victory cannot guarantee
that anyone has won
a lamb is just another lamb
a gun, another gun
so quick is life to disappear
beneath the Arab sun

Never, ever do you fail to move me
with your writing...whether of a meadow,
or a desert parched by the sun.

You are amazing.

Now you know it takes a really "good one" to make me cry and this did just that!  I feel so lucky you and are I friends - calling right now      Sure! You were not home, of course you were not home!  Call you tonight Liz.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
It is the source of all art and science.
