thoughts don’t need a focus
that’s why books blur

people are something else too
(moment of 0 confidence)

as the world gets scarier
so must our mirrors

feruled thighs are purpling
in the bruise of 1:12am regret

a boy simulates rape
in the vestiges of a saint’s old pew

and i reflect fear

as an ocean floor projects waves

as a cloud neglects the morning light

Fear is a shape-changer that comes in many forms, you know...and I've seen many of those. It can be as obvious as a scream, or as camoflaged as a wall of bluster...but once you recognize one of its shapes, it never fools you again.
