Dare I Say Pity

How can I be responsible for your loneliness?
Why do you hold me, your heart’s master?
I have nothing of yours, but time
Remember,
it was a trade, for mine

I am not the great pretender
I haven’t all the answers
and more perhaps, none at all
Why do you continue to search
that podium you built for me
so tall?

I cannot be what I am not
certainly not what I might have been
existing in your mind.
Yet, I do not want to be unkind
and I understand
you are thin skinned.
But when can I be me?

Dare I say pity?

My thoughts are far from you
since you assumed your place in time
and found no care, save your own,
no respect, nor understanding for mine.
Needn’t, are your thoughts,
Are they not?

You flail your sword of singularity divine
As if each star was meant for your kind
Only child bore by your mother
She had no time for another
So pretentious to allow
simple conscience…

We were at one time so clear
as mud
I was the foolish slug
But I did promise my time
Personally committing that crime
So now, nothing is accomplished for living
except for the relentless giving
of time, empty buckets of love
and forgetting the gifts from above

Almost ashamed of calling our life
a living
time usually has its way
taking and giving
Never thought it would be a statistic
living in my wallet

Now full circle
the scripting clear
sorry to say
I’m in your way…

Dare I say pity?

Step away from that mirror...
step far, far away...

this hits so close to a relationship I know...

Excellent work, JL...
you really stepped into another's shoes here.

its good to vent emotions, and you did so with such grace and conviction...not harsh words, but the truth that you know and believe in...
