                      White noise

In the evening of a mid-of-winter day
with sun long down and wind's refrain at bay
I set out alone to take the measure
of what has come again as such a pleasure

White flakes like downy feathers falling still
bring a warmth to counter January's chill
and in the quiet of these crystals' fall
lies that silence treasured most of all
when ordinary sounds that I might hear
are muffled, not likely to reach my ear

Such stillness, treasured in this long night's calm
ephemeral, like snow onto one's palm
will soon enough be rent by northern gale
and those unwary, hear a sirens' wail

Kraw, I do so treasure the stillness of a long night's calm ~ as well as a siren's wail of a northern gale. Thank you for momentarily ~ and very poetically ~ bringing them to this appreciative reader!

Love & Light,
Linda

Truly enjoyed this sonnet, given to its own scheme, that softly drifted to the last two lines that turned.

The last lines jolted me back from the peaceful reflection and calm, muffled silence that I've known alone in outdoor, rural winter.

exactly how it was here where I live this weekend....
sometimes the silence can be our best friend.
Truly lovely.
