I’d Carry You

I’d carry you
if carrying could be,
past all of this, the hurt, the loss,
across the yawning abyss
of an undeserving pain.
I’d lift you softly,
turn your face away
and close your eyes;
float us together
to the other side,
and when the world
was safe again I’d find
a place of joy and beauty,
leave you gently there
upon a steady path.
I’d carry you
if carrying could be,
to spare you this
though sparing is denying,
and some roads
do not grant
a choice of ways.
The canyon must be crossed,
and you will cross it hand by hand,
climb walls of agony to
find the other side.
I’d carry you
if carrying could be,
but I cannot, and so I give
such grace as I can share;
to lay a willing hand
upon your shoulder,
and to let you know
for any comfort it may give,
that you are not alone,
and that I’d carry you
if carrying could be.

oh damn, seems so much I have read this morning has moved me deeply
as has this...
to tears.
God this is beautiful and definately will serve to lift the spirits of the intended recipient I am sure.
Thank you for the beauty in this. The world can be a harsh place sometimes and it is through the caring of people like you that it becomes easier for others.
oh..I blabber on...
but truly, this is lovely.

The greatest beauty on earth, is
found in the hearts of those
who love....

The first time I read this, I thought it was one of the best poems I'd ever read... as well as being the very definition of loving support.

I still do. *S* Beautiful, beautiful write!

Hi, RF.....

It has that voice, but wasn't written that way....just as an expression of sympathy and the wish that I could help a (then new, now old) friend across one of life's worst chasms, even though I knew nothing could help. I had just learned of it then, a couple of weeks after joining here, but I have the same wish now...so I post it once again.

Ed, this was a beautiful way to help carry someone you care about.

I'm glad you reposted.

LMAO~just read your constructive critiques thingy. "Ratleader has a leather head." oh that is funny.

The month when your child died is...hard...forever. If a poem helps a little in any way, how could I withold it?

My best friend's little brother died in a february. He was 11...

Before you posted it this year I went back and found it from last year and printed it out. I'd carry my friend, too.

Such powerful words...

Always, Alyssa

He was a man of sorrows
...I am a girl of tears.
