The Whir of Rubber on Asphalt

Rose-colored plateaus are my horizon this forenoon.
Splashes of sunbeams the sachet I wear.
The whir of rubber on asphalt seems tumultuous,
yet there is naught that's as bewitching.

I breathe in the aroma of the moistened loam from last night's cloudburst.
In the pre-cast gorges of the city,
midst the sonorous throng of motorcars,
too often the ether reeks with besmirched exhaust,
and a hint of dumpsters left open,
contents toasting in the sun.
One can disremember the flavor of topsoil,
perfumed with wildflowers,
in such a place.

That is why I come here.

When need presses to want,
straightaway I ride past the city limits,
beyond the reach of the neon,
and the roadhouses with their immeasurable liquor,
here to these highlands.
I am the last of the cowboys.
The weathered rider straddling his cattle-pony.

O' I bemoan not this good life that's been given me,
for the open space is the sweep gifted me this morn.
Let the Ken's and Barbie's keep their iconic tenements,
their edifices of concrete and steel.
I argue 'tis too much for a few rooms off a common elevator.

I've 115 horses between my thighs,
let's open the throttle and see where this road doth lead.

Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history!

Wonderful Kevin!  Yes, let Ken and Barbie hang out in their town houses - the open road is in my heart too - hey, but then I'm merely a stones throw from Montana - talk about open roads and wide open spaces!  Yeeha!

Enjoyed this morning escape -   Susan

Hi Susan. I just love poems about motorcycles, the open road, and freedom. I think people get too caught up in the must-have of now. I think my ultimate girlfriend would be a poetess, who shops at the Harley Davidson store. LOL! Thank-you dear friend for the comments this morning. You made me smile!

ROAD TRIP! Almost like a cleansing shower having that wind wash urban disatisfaction behind you. Man do I need to get out. Enjoyed this well written post.

Did I hear the mention of Harleys???? I Love motorcycles...and riding them, the freedom you feel, with the wind blowing through your hair, the open space all around you, you feel poweful, like you are king of the world...that nothing can stop you, and you can do anything you set your heart and mind to.

This bike chick has her leather jacket and pants on ready to go....a red set and a black set!

I loved this.My brother was widowed at 73.At 75 I introduced him to a lady friend of mine aged 69 then. She was anxious to meet him. I told her he needed a friend who would consent to ride the back of his Gold Wing Honda. Bright Orange! She said she would try. They have been going together for almost two years now and having a great time. Kayaking and motorcycles. Yeah!
best,marty

Kev,  much enjoyed the freedom of this
adventure.  Wow, what imagery...sorry
though, you won't get my fingers or fannie
on the back of a skooter....though I am
sure it is quite a trip.
