He had died
And now he cried at living,
Ready for ending yet to continue
Revived when he wasn’t suppose to,
And he faded
Slowly wasted to skin and bone frame
Increased in pain yet to continue
What was he so thin to do
As he faded.

I visited him one day
As he worked on macramé
The brown strings twisted together,
His son was like my brother
His wife everyone’s mother
And he had always been full of life and energy,
But this is not what we did see,
But pale bone beneath a sheet of white
A twig of pain that couldn’t sleep at night
That pulled knots so very tight
In shapes his mind did form
Formed my fingers over worn.

He died once more
It had been a month before
Although I no longer remember the date
Just that he lost half his weight
In that final wait.
He died
We cried
And sighed.

Gloom

nodding here, well, glumly

once you see that? bone through skin

you'll never forget

I'm sorry you know.

and I'm sitting here wishing there was more I could say, but we both know, after that?

there's not

This just erased 17 years away
in a teardrop...

This moves me.....for many, many reasons....not the least of which is the sheer quality of the way you wrote it, but your viewpoint is wholly unique and that always captures me.

Moved me, and enough that I found myself writing because of it. My thanks, sir....

Professor

I can see why Ed was so inspired by this ...and I know someone who almost went there the same way.  Well done!!  My best to you!

Thank you, Serenity,
This is inspired by your poem “just me and him again”
So I am pleased you enjoyed it

Thank you, Sunshine
Always nice to see your bright rays beneath my name

Thank you, ThisDiamond,
Glad my sad soulfulness could be enjoyed by you

Thank you, Alli4000,
Glad you liked

Thank you, Ratleader,
An honor to be recognized by such a fine writer as you

Thank you, Marti,
Even an event so long ago
Can still impact my thought,
I tend not to forget
Especially the sadness

Gloom
