Heated was the milk to ease his little girl to sleep
It chased away the sandman, flavoring vanilla dreams of cream;
He  bent upon her peach smooth face
With twinkle in his eye,
Pondered the silent lids of innocence
Drawing father into smile.

       Dear Father,
       the sand has flown into my eyes
       And my throat inflamed and sore,
       With every breath more labored
              heated milk just isn’t
       The prescription anymore;
        My heart weighs heavily.
        Disabled love
        it can hardly hold;
        My throat is angered red
        With all the clumsy words,
             Of course, untimely told.

  Milk’s been spilt, her father long among the dead;
  So to her peers she asked advice,
“a saline mix” is what they said.
  “A couple of tablespoons of salt
  and boiling water too hot to drink.
  Extinguish the flaming throat, and
  Dry out your inner skin.”

          Soooo…
          To Salt Water, the throat and sleepless eyes,
           She makes a toast to you,
           --perhaps a wee bit cries.
           “May you draw the bodys pain and
            deplete all the aching why’s.
           May you gargle a childs dream!"

   Heated was the milk to ease his little girl to sleep
   It chased away the sandman, flavoring vanilla dreams of cream;
   He bent upon her peach smooth face
   With twinkle in his eye,
   Pondered the silent lids of innocence
   Drawing loved one into smile.

Perhaps it's the wine, or maybe the Schubert I'm listening to, but I was startled to read what I perceived to be the same loss of innocence here that I had just written of--and all I can offer is this lousy hug:

And maybe a cup of strong black coffee.

(milk don't do for me either)

Yes, I picked that up in yours, too.

Ah, but to have those peaceful lids again!
Just can't sleep tonight--sore throat.  I
don't know which I depise the most, the ache or the salt water!
   When thinking of remedies for insomnia, it brought back to memories of my dad, pampering us with warm milk.  But, salt water seems more appropriate for the healing...

I appreciate your response, Serenity.

And as to Schubert, a master of mood!

Hi Sadelite. Loved this...but then you knew I would. Sorry you have a sore throat. I hate being sick myself. I make the world's worst patient. (LOL!) For a sore throat I recommend icecream. Yea I know...it only makes it less painful for a little while...but it sure makes my mood better. Icecream always makes me feel better. LOL! Great to see you dear friend.

A wonderful read Sadie...and welcome back, have missed you here.
Hope your sore throat improves, yet I found in your write, the cure for what hurts.

Sadie, lots of mixed imagery in this write. My first reaction was similar to Serenity's, then read your replies. Sorry about the sore throat. Bitching it out makes me feel better, preferably with no one else around to share the suffering. LOL

A bitter substitute for the genuine but here's to making the best of one set of footprints where once there were two. Enjoyed

I think the beautiful words rolling of your heart here have soothed you more than salty water ...
Whenever we are in pain we recall the care we received when children, we yearn for that unconditional love we were given, more than for anything else. That is what I read in your words.
And I am for hot milk with honey. For me it works ... or is it the memory that works?
Wishing you to feel fine, dear Sadie!
Love and hugs.

Whoops, not sure how I missed this one. But I'm sure glad it was surfaced again!

Vanilla dreams of cream sound wonderful!
And I love the line "May you gargle a childs dream."
Great images in this.
You're so great at taking inspiration from the ordinary and turning it to anything but ordinary!

Hope your Valentine's day is good

Always, Alyssa
