I wonder
where you are tonight;

the snow that piles
between us ,is suffice
for those without such heart,
to just dismiss and
say perhaps our paths
in probability
may never cross again,

(that you've simply moved
on while you bled out
one of your many lives)

but the candle still
blows symmetrical, not
ready to rescind its glow
at the back window,
where my eyes still melt
the warping white for you,

do you know i hear you
in muffled voice
calling out to me,
near the brink of dawn,
when not much else
could jar me
from that heaven's place,
where i marry the dreamlover,
that has yet to come
and break the chains
to rescue me,

i became a primapara,
the summer day
i proclaimed myself
and wore the role of
your then abadonned mother,

though you never
quickened beneath me,
and flickered a butterflys
pace across my mommieheart,

i imposed my need
to be needed,
most happily upon you,
the day you took possession
blanketing my porchsteps,
barely nodding your approval,
just taking me as is,
another wretched stray,
trying to find
her own way back.

Brilliant analogy, Michele!  Too many good lines to single out one.   ......jo

The last stanza kicks ass, IG. Would love to have written it!
Your flow of conscious/unconsciousness is a delight to breathe in.

We adopted a stray - he stole my heart - then we had to give him away - still feel the ache -

this is wonderfully written-

Nine lives would be a hard act to follow, but methinks there are a few savy tom cats who have it down to a science, and then keep multiplying it in spades.  Or sumthin'.

You're such a cool kitty,  who could ever resist you and your blonde streaks.

all my pets have been strays...and I have never regretted a one...but I do keep them inside the house as this  corner is way too dangerous to let them be free to wander..
maybe they find me for the same reason

wonderful Michele...

I proclaimed our black cat "mine" and I feel so dejected when he prefers my daughter...

Nicely done images, well balanced with a bit of a snap at the end.  You're always a pleasure to read.  KJ

thanks kitties
keep the candle lit for my little scorpy porpy
scorpio cat, my favorite little stray of the group
wish i could have taken him in, but when i tried it a couple of times, he attacked my l5 year old aging house cat, so i've been trying to find him a home, but for now, he's missing since the storm last week
and needless to say, im worry about him

I have nothing to say, Michele:

do you know i hear you
in muffled voice
calling out to me,
near the brink of dawn,
when not much else
could jar me
from that heaven's place,
where i marry the dreamlover,
that has yet to come
and break the chains
