In A Space Between Clouds

Too dark for sky below these clouds;
a week of rain comes down to this:
the breakup time, sky already fallen,
leftover clouds starting to slink away
like the chastened crowd after a riot.
They chose night to do it.

A small break over there, darkness
spreading into black, maybe sky
and stars now if I watch and wait.
Stars. Suddenly I need one --
need it – and one is coming now,
tiny, blue, struggling into view.

One star, and another there? No.
No stars, and sudden perspective:
there is no break in the clouds.
They went thicker, darker there.
No star stood a chance against them,
though hope tried to bring one through.

Hope nearly succeeded. There was
that moment, a magic pause
in all the rain, when the wet dark
turned at last and yielded up a star.
One star. Pure. Clear. Imaginary.

I remember this night..we do share the same few miles of sky after all...you described it very well. I liek the tone of this one respectful yet knowing what is needed and finding it even if you had to imagine it....very nice Ed

takes good writing to get me to react with emotions.

This speaks to me - of hope - of belief in the perseverence of man's soul - wonderful

The star may have been imaginary... the magic you write is not... and it lifts a spirit... just as that twinkle of light (seen or unseen) parts the clouds.

Fantastic work, my friend... you just keep getting better and better!!!

Ed

Sometimes what you search for is right there in your own eyes.  I loved the feeling of hope in this!

I have known this need also Ed and God you write it so well...

and suddenly am reminded of the old saying to be star you must shine your own light, and
don't worry about the darkness, for that is when stars shine their brightest....

thank you for this sir.
