Carry me across the road
wet with runoff
drizzled over curb and side walked
under the door of home and more

can we swim in air
breathing water bubbles stream
the swift of current like a scream?

the bridge is gone from across
so filled the sound on walls that slip
saved within community
the new grass waves
before it falls and makes of ground a roof

that’s proof
the rock waits like an angry sore
a small stream leaking out
tossing the color black about

do I dare to jump from it
across the fury of this tongue of grit
into a question of heaven

to see if
within the brave of the necessary us
is belief

great poetry Martie - with all the rain your part of the US is getting it certainly seems symbols of wet and struggle would come to mind - you write it so much better than I can say it - Paul

I have great admiration for people who can do with skill things I can not even reach.

I can not reach this place of writing that you achieve with such grace, economy and style.

How this brought me back to the unsettled forests of my childhood, I do not know, but I have been sitting here remembering the brazen trees of autumn, game trails, tumbled glacial boulder fortresses of children's fantasies, lush blueberries, raspberries and blackberries in the tangles of summer's tall grass, worried deer herds of winter's icy streams...and always, the rains and surge of newly wakened life in spring.  Thank you for this light that reached through time for me...and made me smile.

I think Icebox said it perfectly...You do have
that talent, so well expressed and given to
us that we might savor it and fall into
our own place of dreams.

I too must quote icebox here - "I have great admiration for people who can do with skill things I can not even reach.

I can not reach this place of writing that you achieve with such grace, economy and style."

Beautiful writing from a beautiful lady!

As you know I must follow Ford's thinking, there are so few that just take words to the pinnacle and I am thinking you may be teaching them.  Beautiful m'friend, just beautiful!

I'm glad you decided to post this in spite of the dark in it...see, the comments here bear me out, no one here minds a little darkness if you're looking into it with love and telling the real of it.

It's even better now...I'm honored that you would show me your work at all, let alone things that are still forming...a lot of trust in that, and I hope I always merit it.

And these lines...

that’s proof
the rock waits like an angry sore
a small stream leaking out
tossing the color black about

do I dare to jump from it
across the fury of this tongue of grit
into a question of heaven

to see if
within the brave of the necessary us
is belief

You really know how to bring a punch up from the canvas! Such raw power in these words that it's hard to imagine poetry having any stronger impact...yet gentle at the same time, still Martie in spite of the lightning flashes in the words.

Martie, I have to agree with James:
"Such raw power in these words that it's hard to imagine poetry having any stronger impact...yet gentle at the same time."  This describes so well how I see much of your writing; always very powerful.   ....jo

Made me think of the recent mud slides that came from nowhere, so unexpectly.
How precious life is, for in an instant change comes.  How well we have come to know
change.
