Snow damp, red, wool
mittens
drying on the stove
mugs of steaming cider
with just a pinch
of clove.
Winter jackets hung
on hooks
our buckled boots
lined up.
Rosey cheeks and tossled hair
sipping from a
Bunnykins cup.
Fingers sketch on
window's freeze
breath becomes
the artist's
stain.
Giggle pictures
warm the glass
till sad
drippings
just remain.
Pajama laughter
warmed the
sheets
cold season long ago
and shadow puppets
skiied pillow hills
While slumber
stole the
show.
Dreaming tiny bells
on figure skates
Plaid flannel
scarf fringe
floating.
Slumbering a perfect
figure eight
Etched in
powdered sugar
coating.

Ah Chris!  Now I need a kleenex!

"Dreaming tiny bells
on figure skates
Plaid flannel
scarf fringe"

Wow!  You remember? Gee, I can't see the screen now..
see what you've done..so many memories.

And I remember your Bunnykins cup!
Gleeee....I love this!!!
And since we're sisters and we share everything..
well just about everything.
I'm keeping this!!!!
And when I feel lonely, or sad, and tired
I'll read this again, and the winter scene of us
skating at Fanshawe will carry me off
to happy childhood times with you.
I love you too Chris.
~Soft smiles and proud hugs, Teed~

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
an invincible summer.

Thankyou Soulfisher for reading and commenting.

Nancy Lee - didn't mean to make you cry. I was always envious of your "figure" skates with the bells and how you wore your scarfs thrown over your shoulder instead of tied at the back the way "us littler kids" had to...lol. Luv Ya!!

Your heart rings true with memories.
It's good to share your reveries.

Well done and a joy to read.  Ken

Chris, I loved this. It brought back my own memories of skating on the river and going for what seemed like miles. Then going home to hot chocolate with marshmallows! I never liked the smell of wet mittens on radiators and to this day the smell of wet wool is not one of my favorite smells!

A great write ... thanks for sharing your memories that evoked my memories!
hugs, Marti

Marti - lol about the "wet mittens on the stove smell"....I agree....the only good thing about that scent was that you knew the hot chocolate or cider steam would waft it away from you...lol.  Thanks & Hugs !!!
