A personal rant on the slant of the media to portray the ill and neglect the triumphs - I wonder if we weren't all so busy hiding from the horror, but saw the good that can be done, would we all step out and follow the leader?

Ten Minute Tabloid

it’s world news, or is it?
ten minutes is all it took
I saw . . .

War

Destruction

Horror

Anguish

Pain

and

Death

yet the news had just begun--
briefly I hear of . . .

Soldiers taking heaters to a girls School

Fire fighters struggling to save a man’s life

People valiantly trying to dig others out from a mud slide

briefly

briefly

Why is it not  the . . .

Heroism

Sacrifice

Compassion

that is highlighted?

give me a world where the hero is the news
or the average Joe, going out of his way to make a difference
where the good of mankind is focused upon
in his/her effort to overcome

keep your ten minute tabloid
Let’s embrace the good, could and should

s.a.t.

If I wander far enough, long enough, will I finally know . . .

I'm going back to not watching the news - just listening to the public radio at times to get my info - it's too darn scary -

Thanks for the replies

I agree, but they say that good news doesn't sell...
and I disagree with that...

Thanks, Susan...you portrayed my thoughts very well...

basically i DID stop reading and listening to the 'feel bad" news every night; about 5 years ago, and gave myself to the trees instead, but  then when i have to venture into the 'real' world, and people discuss world events, i end up feeling
iliterate, so ????????

o..i like your heavenly glow in the photo

Susan, I agree with you. It seems that when most news broadcast do mention something heroic or good, it's only a very small portion of the broadcast. I have almost quit watching the news every day.

By the way, I also like your new picture. You look like an angel with a halo in it.
Hugs,
Ethel

Thank you my friends - I've not watched news for about a year now and then felt bad when I had to hear about the tsunami here on PIP as well as the flooding in California - so I checked out the news and felt my heart sink-

I really believe that if we heard more good we would be inspired to do more good and feel better about our communities and getting involed within them -

Thanks ladies, for the dialog - and thanks for the nice words on the pic - guess it does sort of look like a halo - hehe, wonder if E.A. is missing hers?

Hugs -  Susan

You know why?
Because there are not nice people who want to engage poeple to the telivision by filling the viewers with mistrust and so forth.

A very insightful view.

The new media are like the gladiatorial games.  Perverse, but they keep us from focusing on the things our leaders do not want us to contemplate.

I have to remind myself sometimes that the same First Amendment that allows the scum to float to the top of the pool also protects PiP.

Juju - I think you are right - and sadly - many seem to be attracted to tragedy

Icebox - yes, sad to say, it is so, that we may be free to speak our minds, we must hear the muck -

Appreciate both your replies - thank you

your ranting are well justified, believe it or not...television educates society...they've taken that great responsibility and strangled it...leading people to believe in only negative....approving bad behavior and conditioning people to be pesimistic.

I'm so thankful for people as yourself...keep penning my friend...
