In the arms of God...

0 posted 2005-01-09 06:57 PM

This past year certainly wasn't a good year for me as far as losing loved ones is concerned.  Like Auguste...my Grandma was a SPECIAL angel to me and she was every thing I hope to be.  The following poem was my loving tribute to her...and her memory.

Loving Thoughts of Grandma
***************************

From a tiny child in your arms
you loved us from day one.
You held us close and kissed us
and filled our lives with fun.

You were there to pick us up
when we'd fallen down...
to wipe our tears, calm our fears
and take away the frowns.

The love and the compassion
of your heart so freely flowed.
You made "living love" seem easy
...OH...the "seeds of life" you sowed.

You fought for what you believed in
and you never made a sound.
When the storms of life were raging
before our Lord you'd bow.

Christ's love and His forgiveness
were the things you'd often preach.
Not with words these things were said,
but by actions you would teach.

Your laughter would illuminate
even the darkest room.
And fill us with the sense of peace
when our would seemed full of gloom.

You loved all creatures great and small
and taught us to do the same.
You taught of joy in "simple things"
such as whippoorwills and rain.

Your loving arms were always there
to welcome all to your home.
You'd greet us with your tender smile
then through the house we'd roam.

I bet you did not realize
the countless souls that you would reach.
Your love and life has shown us
the kind of lives that we should lead.

And it's those of us that know your best
that will forever call your name.
So listen for thoughts or shouts of love
for Grandma, Mom or "Babe".

Dedicated in loving memory to my Grandma, Mary Alice.  May she rest in peace!

Rebecca this is a lovely tribute to your Grandma.
I'm sure she sees it and is smiling proudly down at you from Heaven.
You have such a beautiful soul..
and it shows in your poetry.
I am again pleased to say welcome to Passions.
~Hugs & Smiles, Nancy~

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
an invincible summer.

Your words touch a spot within the heart that makes one yearn for a family that shares such love as she shared with you...I never knew my grandmothers or any extended family but being a grandmother of 12 myself makes me hope that all the love I show them will be remembered with such beauty as this...You inspire people to be the best they can be and I, for one, am greatful to you for it...*hugs*

I believe you've captured what most do not recognize today...Love is caring more about another, then oneself, which is becoming more and more a lost culture today.

Wonderful write

Thought I would try this one more time....as I tried it earlier and it wouldn't let me post it cause I had too many faces in it. :)

Anyway...from the top! :D

Enchantress...thank you for the kind words and warm welcome!!  I hope I can get more poems to flow from my pen and reach my paper soon...I have fallen into a slump lately. :(

J.Samm...thank you for the nice words and for stopping to read my own. :D

Startime55...well, that was VERY nice of you to say, but I think that it was my Grandma that inspires people to be the best that they can be...I just tried to capture that in this one.  Wondering if I even did her justice...she was a pretty special lady to a lot of people! :)

passing shadows...that is so sad that you didn't get to see your grandmothers that often.  At least you get to spend eternity with them...and what a blessing that will be, huh? :)  Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to post here.

Soulfisher...the opening up was the easy part [or at least easier].  It was trying to capture my Grandma's spirit and life in this poem that was the hard part.  She was just too big for words in my opinion...but I tried. :)  Thank you for your kind response!!

LeeJ...wouldn't it be great if the people of this world actually took the time to care more about others than they do themselves?  I know I would love living more. :)  I have to say that I am guilty of it some times too, but I am working on it.  With my Grandma as an example for all...how can I not at least do my very best?

Seymour Tabin...thank you for those sweet words!! :)

nakdthoughts...yeah, I think that my Grandma was probably the best of the "Grandma Bunch", but then again...I'm biased! :D  Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to respond!!

Thank you all!  I can see that I will make some great friendships here!!

***Hugs***
