Air directs my every move
like trick or treat at Halloween
for the love of sugar candy
or a penny, pound, to buy
a fizzy soda pop.

It has ears around the corner
eavesdropping on my heart,
eyes to see me cry,
and lips to smile with me
remembering my dreams
but not an ounce of power
to satisfy my needs.

All around my everything
a conspiracy for sure
to make me think that air
is a friend and not despair
dancing in and out
of my complacency.

A lifetime to prepare
and perfect the sound check
for air to simply say,
“I can hear you”
but only once a woman’s voice
and I loved her then and there.

She’s gone to cleaner air
to escape the crime wave
of bandits and robbers
holding souls to ransom
and testing reactions
of the human system.

The breath of life – ha-ha, ha-ha,
more likely puppet masters
contorting my beliefs
for the love of sugar candy,
soda pops, and more
at the after party
of my soon downfall.

Just a maybe/perhaps air doesn’t know
women live to rule the day
but in the night, oh, fearful night,
what a fight it is to stay  …
heavier than air!

yeah, but we're women...and by God, we're the first wives club...anyone like to join hands and sing?

This was I believe one of your best...though it's hard to say, b/c if I went and read another one of yours, would feel the same way about that one....your a tremendous visual writer....

Thank you

Dixie - thanks for the read!

LeeJ -  Thank you for your kind comment.  It makes me pleased to know that you enjoy my little stories.  Maybe I'll write "poetry" in my next life but ... ... I think what I write comes from a past one so I'm not too hopeful.  Thanks again!
