Winter me in White
That redbirds may see glory
Against brighter gray

And I shall sing you wind songs
Tempering this chill of dawn

~*~

Bridges to dance on
Benches to seat memories
Trees holding winter

I shall sing you love’s wind songs
Trees shall dance toward summer

Karilea - if I whisper, will you listen?  Keeping in mind, I must stand close...and keep my promises...

Beautiful Karilea...and the pic is very special.

Watch the deer come close
just outside the cottage door
hoof tracks in the snow.

To sweep off the car; out back
The frightned heard bolts,

Then stands; silouettes in brush;
Snorts...tails raised, alert, afraid.

Thus, should come one love,
In boldly forging its way
That two stand as one

Winter sees warmth rekindled;
Anticipation seeks spring

Kacy...I suggest you play in the snow..
******************************************

The sun does not burn,
Oak and maple take its place
Encased in iron

I am too comfortable,
Feel need of adversity.

So I dress quickly,
Felted muckluks and parka,
Wool socks and mittens.

And step out of the stale house
Into brisk, winter freshness.

Winds kiss appled cheeks
Slick walks cause apprehension
Do step lightly, do

Trek about in snow, instead;
Leave behind some thought of you.

Mountains missing newfallen snow
Ski trails vanish

Would that the cleansing weather
Be for peace a bellwether

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Chances are the weather's change
Will come moving day;

But stay where you are and see,

Catching the falling snow
Holding little critters
Dancing on their toes

While Grandma’s baking cookies
Little children never know
If that sound they hear is grandpa
Or George Lucas’s friend the Wookie

Getting dowsed in freezing temps
What will mother say?

Friend's basement offers dryness

Hiding naked while clothes dry
Friend's mother calls home

Mother wrings hands in relief
Father applies bottom heat

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Are there songs for snow?
"Rain, rain, go away," we know...
But, music for snow?

I know when it falls to earth
There are tinklings to hear

Perhaps there's no match
Masters leave nature alone
To sing her own song

It may be something so clear
Cannot be regaled by man

Has not diminished the lights
From poets' candles

They quill winter images
As fine as a snowflake's lace

Hidden as they are in pine
May lighten one's step

He calls for his mate, I know;
Just as I would beckon, see.

Even King Solomon in all his glory
Could not compare to His glory of creation,
Dispelling grace, is that very six-fifteen fog
and nature could not be a display of beauty

Written in the heart of each mating call
Are instructions, to continue His plan of hope
For the revived, renewal of life…

The newspapers’ ink not yet dry,
as voices went a’ cry
The winter storms of 1905
November through December

One hundred and eleven ships go down
And fourteen smashed ashore
Winter 1905, on the Great Lake Superior

The sky pitch black
howling winds at sixty miles an hour
The coming Spring a Godsend hope
Thousands of human lives had need

As all storms do, this one passed by too
As it did a memento was said seen:
A “forget-me-not” note melting in the snow.

Spitting out of spite
Recollects one smallish asp
How to end one's day

So do we learn nothing yet
Or shall history sleep on?

Let's shake the timbers
Raising roofs, jouncing shingles
Let some meanings pour

Not accountable for all
Though responsible for me.

Seeing nothing of the wickedness
Here in the valley of death

Or shall we lean into the wind
Crushing the head of that serpent
Giving solitude to our brothers
Taking to us their burden.

We are all in this together.
Are we not, brother?

Nay, we're not monkeys
Nor deny matters and truths
Helpless though our hands

Yet take the bell of knowledge
Let it ring clear, loud and long

Then do what one can
If one might change but one life
Turn it all around

Not by force, mayhap prayer
Lent only through example

Do not do as they do
But as they say, do
For the words they speak is truth
But their way is inequity
That path to certain destruction
Gaze into the past for it holds the key
Not as soothsayers but as nature of men

Life in continual change,
Yet, no change in striving for truth
Precept upon precept, for the good of all
In the hand of one, go the lives of many
Yet, just one soul saved is the pursuit

Vainness, in perpetual regeneration
Does not exist within laws of nature
Survival is there, its prominent role
Least the robin would be blind
And the lion would have no teeth
And the spirit of man would cease
And the trial of deeds would fail.

Or allow warmth of summer
Either way, I know

If I pray here, in open

(Should be two back.  Late on this one SunShine, sorry).
.
.

Nature’s forest display designed creation.
Following nature’s law of unforgiving
Having only that unspoken law to carry on
Man conceives idea, plans, designs, and builds
Thought, mind, body, great above tree - at man’s behest.

But, prayer finds home in His pleasure
Lifted to His nostrils from burning amber

Creatures, by man’s misfortunate choice
Separated therein, waiting the judged moment
Placated by His hand only, with breath for prayer
As Daniel’s lions amend, listening to his prayer
Let those having eyes see and those having ears, hear

All of heaven listens to the faith
Words poured out to the very gate

And all creatures having breath praise the Lord.
And man amazes the Angels in Heaven
Seeing no sign nor being at His side
Of His conception, plans, design, and creation
His hand, holding cold, heat, night and day,

Forest, where His creation is on display
laws of nature His design.

[Robert F...come back and join in!]

quote:
All of heaven listens to the faith
Words poured out to the very gate

Thus, the gatekeeper
Who counts spirits' waverings
Wearies of numbers

For he asks that they all stay
In this, his Father's Kingdom

But, Devil dances
For he has leathered feet with
Material goods

Confusion reigns over earth
In this winter walk barefoot

Fear is not of His Kingdom
Wisdom is the lesser of His gift
As contentment laces sandals for all

The very streets are paved in gold
Needs, wants, and desire – withered

Autonomy is passed onto its antonym
Labor and misunderstanding, the curse
Now lives at lake’s floor

For Faith harbors light
Traverse the impossibles
I bring mustard seeds

And in reaching out, find friends
While all touch on possibles

For no need to ask
His Love for us, always there
Though some turn blind eyes

Still, His name lives through ages
Descrying the devil's dance

Faith endures the universe
Relevant to the seed
And the blind will see
The lame will walk
The infirmed released

Father will nestle His children
All to the feast

Dance with open hearts
And candied sugarplums
Disease has no host
Devil’s dance is done
New, is the beginning

Antiquity is future planed
From sand castles, between His hands

Enter the Castle
Shake the snowglobe, let it fly
Steal winter's fury

Wrap me in words so well wrought
That day becomes night too soon

For duets appear
Along choka's repartee
Who cares if it snows

Someone said the fire is warm
Only the wolf howls alone

beautiful photo and poems. Thank you for the invitation.

Oh lone sparrow,
how long can you stay alive

An icy wind blows strong;

Happy that its cold,
No winter rain now, I step out
Hoping for more snow

Needing to feel wolf again,
Needing to breath sparrow air.

The day-moon retreats
Behind a lake-effect shrouds
White out, wind harangue

I am, Dunbar's caged bird free,
And like London's White Fang, howl.

Echoing long into dawn
Even pink skies bleed

Perhaps only spirits heard

Bright sun through clean air
Rainbows differ in winter
Arching above squalls

No dust in air to hinder
No pollen dulls the prism

In a south-slope woods
Pregnant does are half asleep
Colors fall to ground

Winter rainbows have their ends
Fawns are worth their weight in gold

Here, in the valleys
Just below the ridge so white
Where the Smokey flowed

Catfish sleeping 'neath the ice
All seems halted in slow time

Fall's berries, purpled
Held over, iced possession
Nature's frozen foods

Awaiting some thaw of sun
Waiting for squirrels to gnaw

peering back to spring

Look deep into your own eyes
Find the icy truth.

Knowing how a heart holds warm
Fires’ emit, drawn in

One might hold heat inside them
That could waste any forest

Though who might measure
If one stands close, chancing burn
Only brave survive

Who might know this inner fire
Only someone with desire

All things come around

Daybreak, sun searching
For mysteries that claimed dark
One needs night shadows

As one would dance in sunlight
But richer, a waltz, with Moon

Filling every nook, crevice
Morning sun illumes

To rescue those still alive
After night of ten below

Thus, 'twas always such,
Tragedies speak to nature
In low, keening voice

Someone beats their chest, tears hair
Yet earth revolves, ever so.

snowfall covers all
enormous winter blankets
too heavy to sum
fleeing birds head south for warmth
where scattered seeds can be seen

seeking misplaced travelers

Where then are your four corners, Oh earth?
Nature, pray tell your winds, rivers, streams,Sunshine,
Salted Sea, or snowflake, and your endless mirth?

Savagery upon man?
Or, In your play such strength you have unknown?

Poems are snowshoes
Their frames, this winter choka
Strings of words are webs

Strung together by Sunshine
Poets suspend above drifts

Last night's diamonds
Now strung fine ~ crystal dew drops
Sun shall touch each one

For within ~ prism colors
Magic casts shadows aside

Subliminal moon
Watching earthfolk scurrying
Relaxing orbit

Heavens note global spinning
Ev'ry star twinkle a tear

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

leaping lines of rhyme sublime
taste the feel of ice

casting poetic light beams

Stories tell of poetic verse
Where dolphin spirits play
Somewhere lost in the universe

Poets venture there in dream
Writing down all they have seen

Understanding of life unlived
Philosophical rants non-deprived
Magical words there derived

Where magic begins
Sugarspunwebs delight us
And dreams kiss shadows

But where dolphin flies and dives
Ancient secrecy dwells deep

As once said: “A kiss is just a kiss.”
No magic implied
So dreams become true, no one lied

And dolphins can fly, and speak so clear
It’s the awakening from dreams, of which I fear

dreams are like snowballs
here today, gone tomorrow
catch them as you can

despair not they don't linger
live fleeting moments

Sunniness slip away
Rains will come and maybe snow
Helping daffodils to grow.

Shadows flee at break of day.
Once more bringing  time to play.

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Soon will show heather
Pink above snow, hellebores
Gold, Lenten roses

Above drifts mauved with daphne
Signs of spring though winter holds

For now, winter holds
Spirals of weather unfolds
Hearken sleet and snow

Curl with me in coverlets
Watch flames melt snow to dewdrops

And in the quiet whispers
of warm breath, melting snow
those spirals of weather be your perfume

Beneath quilts spun by hand, open hearts are let in
Where fancy are two bodies, warming their skin

In a winter dream
I saw and heard spring, redwings
Swaying on cattails

Were singing loud "tree till dees"
Calling mates that have not come

Rush them, the season
Atop wind shifted rushes
That ice locks upright

Silly featherd men, singing
Feet gripped tight to typhus down.

Only yesterday
Tirr-Tirr-Wit flew, tree to tree
Red wings a'blazing

Today the gray is sounding
Redbird hides from sleet and ice

Fear not, for even the least of all of creation
Has a name, and placed into loving hands
Mysteriously, spring will provide

Save for a moment in blistering cold rain
Winter’s time too will pass

Bravery becoming, this maiden of good will
Sunshine will bestow upon nature
Her pervious glow reaching out to its hungry

Joy will be sung in the Heavens
For His creatures have a true friend

Besotting nature
Keeping all the creatures pleased
Selfish on my part

I wish no carcass to rot
Nor bring blacked winged birds of death

Modesty from the gentle heart
Foresting the frozen rain
Turning a blind eye, that thought to depart

If help was not her plan
Nature would have made a hungry Tree-Cat

Ten below zero
January twenty eight
Two thousand and five

Deer have eaten last nights corn
Five a.m. laying more down

I shout at the trusting ones
Stupidly standing nearby
Hiding in thin brush

Knowing they need fear humans
And my compassion is odd

Snow breaks free in crystal light
Coating deer in white

They know some men aren't to fear

They should know me thus
A Nurturer-predator
Man, crude as any

As they digest, chew their cud
Someday I may ingest them.

(This is why I shouted at them, they should never lose their fear of man)

Man writes of beauty
Seeking to lift souls higher
When all seems so lost

We find character in word
Knowing some may lose their way

The lost can be found
Those not lost
Need not frown

For the seeker of the lost
Cannot loose that which is, already, in His hand

Across inland seas
Came the Alberta clipper
Its freight cars loading up snow

I became lost for moments
When it released its cargo

Rumbling gray underneaths
Laying foam crustings

All the world seems upside down

Understanding behest the bride
Before the coming marriage in clouded sky

Repentance is on their lips
Preparing uprightness and understanding

So love what you know
Know enough to want for more
Desire to know all

Then lift above what is best
Trusting in your heart, you know

In knowledge there are two
Know and Ledge
Discernment in Wisdom is true

The oak is strong its seed revealed
Yet the tree of a mustard seed overwhelms

"desire to know all"
A drink, a cup of potion
Taking down a book

Finding truth in old letters
Aligning with dead poets

The mood of my day
Is changed by an opened page
Joy, sorrow, indifference

Their life's honors and disgrace
Are mine, basically the same.

(Mustard seed or hemlock)

"It's never too late"
The mantra of my heart, now
What keeps it beating

Finding mustard seeds in sand
Among the footprints of time

"It's never too late"
Sing it like a keeping song
Step then to its tune

It keeps the pages turning
It keeps the mind a'whirling

Love is the keeper of secrets
Time is that of love
For it is said: “Love conquers all”

However, love is for the adventurous
And time, waits for no one.
