Where no tyranny is tolerable

Circles

1:
It is evening
In the  summer of 1971.
And we are living in Monterey.
I am eating a hamburger,
Listening
to Casey Casem's American top 40.
James Taylor, Y've Got A Friend ..
The Doors ... Riders On The Storm ...
Remember all those great songs? ...
Remember 1971? ...
Remember the hits from coast to coast?
I didn’t know
That we could listen to it here in Mexico!
I suppose
It must be coming in by satellite.

2:
I wake
In a Mexican jail cell.
Mother says to hurry and get dressed.
She is telling the police
Why they should let me go.
They finally let me out of jail
On condition that we leave the country.
I am wearing
A pair of old, moth-eaten sandals,
Walking on a rickety foot-bridge,
Crossing to the Texas side,
When suddenly I’m in a vehicle,
Roaring at full throttle,
Racing round and round in circles
On the bridge.
I hear the sound behind us
Of pursuing motorcycles,
Also racing circles
On the bridge.
I catch the putrid stench
Of turgid, muddy river water
And the fear of drowning.
What if we fall off? ..
We then come to a stop.

3:
The chasing motorcycles
Turn out to be
The Mexican police.
The police had changed their mind,
Were trying to re-arrest us,
And now re re-arrest us for resisting arrest.
An officer is having trouble
Putting on the handcuffs,
So I hold out both arms
To help him,
And they walk me back to Mexico
By chain.
My old and rotten sandals have disintegrated,
And so, instead of walking,
I start flying through the air.

Sound: The Beach Boys
Just Send Our Mail
To The Tijuana Jail …

SC

Today’s aphorism:
The road to construction
Is always under success.

Young man, if I didn't know better,
I'd say you were in cahoots with my
midwestern friends who still refer to me
as the "beached babe"...LOL...

and somewhere in my archives, I have a letter
"supposedly" written by the Beach Boys [via those friends...], and a superimposed picture of a real babe...LOL...all via those same friends...

Yes, Jaime, I do believe you're in cahoots with them, just to plant a huge old smile on this old face...

Thank you so much for this grin of the day!

Oh gads...songs of '71...here are a few of them...

What's Going On
Stairway to Heaven
Won't Get Fooled Again
Imagine
Changes
Let's Stay Together
Iron Man
Wild Horses
Baba O'Riley
Me and Bobby McGee
American Pie
Maggie may
Love Her madly

Oh wow....memories are flooding back here.
I'm just going to sit here for awhile and hum, okay?
Excellent write!

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

I was born in 69 but somehow the 70s was my best decade...I'm still stuck on the music

having two brothers then influenced me

I remember 45 record players and then 8 tracks...I have 3000 songs on my computer from when Napster first came out...

how I loved the 70s

Kacy, Sun is still smiling/shining... and Ed?  You got that right!  I am STILL a fan of the Beach Boys...and a whole lot of other old guys that still have the ability to thrill me with their music...

Jaime?  Your next task...Neil Diamond!

Jaime, and I will tell you [no one else can see this, right?]

When Neil Diamond came out with "Sweet Caroline" my long-ago and still long-time girlfriend came running across the street because she SWORE she heard...

Sweet Karilea [and like I said, she SWORE on it!] and thought that some how Neil had written THAT song for me....

you can now understand WHY I think he will always remain one of my favorite musica artists...

just because a friend "heard it" that way...
